Wow I haven't posted here in a long time....Anyways...

I've made my titan into a missile launcher-type-thingy. It has a 1' long sch 80 PVC barrel. The "missiles" are water bottles. I have found that they slide quite easially over the PVC and have a fairly good seal. The problem isn't how well the bottle seals. In mid-air the bottles will flip and tumble loosing all of their momentum very quickly. i'm pretty sure this is because of their lack of mass.

If anybody could suggest ways that I can modify the bottles to make them more stable, or a completely new missile, that would be great.

Thanks

Try to bulk up the mass with foam filler. Spray it in and you shuld have some more mass. But find PVC that will fit over your barrel and spray the filler in around it.

Bulk up the overall mass of the bottle a bit, but make sure that the head of the bottle is a bit heavier. You could use the expanding foam, but maybe add some BBs to the bottom of the bottle before you put it in.

Thanks for the ideas guys. Once I pick up some expanding foam I'll post some pictures of the beast.

You could add fins in addition to the weight.

One fun thing is to have the bottles somewhat full of water, they fly pretty well (considering their weight) and have a nice trail of water.

Well, on the topic of expanding foam...

the bottles could be used as one-use molds to make foam missiles: fill them with foam, use an xacto to slice the bottle off, add bbs to the necessary parts for weight.

Um....not to sound annoying, but why is this in homemades?

To answer your question, you could try using electrical tape to give the bottle a tighter fit.

To answer your question, you could try using electrical tape to give the bottle a tighter fit.

That actually wont help at all. All that means is that more pressure will build up to launch the bottle off. In turn, the bottle will fly even less accurately because it still wouldn't be balanced properly.

Anyway, without pictures Im not sure of the exact fit so I can't say for sure how well it could work, but even a simple pool of hot glue squirted into the bottle could add enough mass to stabilize it. If nothing else, this is probably a lot cheaper than expanding foam and weights.

first of all, your right, this should be in Mods, but...

More power doesn't lead to less accuracy, with the right weighting no accuracy problems should occur. And I see now that I had the wrong idea of this before, and that the bottle is going over, not into, the barrel. Oh well.

More importantly, this was a dead topic from half a month ago, check the date before posting.
