Hello,

Recently I have been having major problems with my SM1500. After I plugged the pump, the pressure in the tank would be too powerful, and the trigger would not have enough force to pull back for it to release all of the pressure. I usually would have to wait until it decompressed (which could take hours, to days) or open it up and pull the release rod manually.

Here is a mod I used to allow me to shoot it even when over-pumped / pressurized:

Tools:
- Pipe Cutter (I used one where you rotate the item until it cuts)
- Pliers that with cutting edges
- Screw Driver
- Cheap Bic Ballpoint Pen

I quickly diagnosed the problem
It seemed that the problem was that the spring in between the trigger mechanism and the release rod compressed too much where the spring would be compressed rather than give enough force for the trigger to pull the release rod back. I knew I had to replace this with something harder, so I gave one of my 1000 pens a try.

Note: Now when pulling the trigger, you may notice that it will be less cushioned as the spring will be replaced.
Also, you will notice that more air will come out of your barrel and it will possibly be louder.

Instructions
Open your SM 1500, and locate the Trigger mechanism and the release rod. There should be a metal rod, with a plastic end and a spring in between the trigger mechanism and the end of the release rod.

Take a bic pen, and cut a segment off about 1CM in length with your pipe cutter. Make sure it is nice and even.

Cut a line straight through the side of the cylinder. (----)

Move the existing spring on the release rod where it will not affect the trigger mechanism and place the bic pen section between the end of the release rod and trigger mechanism

Close the gun, pump a bit more than you should, and shoot. It should now work.

Ah, the ol' bic pen mod. Never fails. I highly reccomend doing this on almost all pump guns.

A word of warning if you're Bic pen modding a New Version SM1500...

The trigger on these babies is really weak, and the design subjects it to a lot of stress.

Doing the pen mod (which has been a standard since SM1500s and most air-powered blasters came out, as Ren said) puts even more stress on an already weak part.

I broke seven SM 1500 New version triggers, some after doing the pen mod. Most of the repairs I tried worked only temporarily, and the airtanks ended up in integrations, and for trade bait.

I now have an Old version 1500, and I'm leaving the trigger STOCK. I'm going strictly barrel mods for power increases (I'd like this thing to last awhile, as it's replacing my SM 5000 "RoadBlocker" as my primary.

Nice to see you posting again, Nerfy BuNNy. All kinds of new stuff popped up since you bailed, but you probably know that already.

Yeah, when I first plugged the pump on my SM3K, the pressure was so high that I could only fire it by holding it upside down (I don't know why it worked though). After doing a Bic pen mod I had a much easier time pulling the trigger. Now I do the pen mod to every air gun I have. This way I don't have to worry about the trigger spring eventually wearing out due to the excess pressure.

As stated before, new edition SM 1500 triggers have a tendency to break. Fixing this is a pain, but it's possible.

I took some aluminum sheet metal left over from crossbow reinforcing etc., and cut two narrow strips that can sit diagonally across the trigger on both sides across the break. After epoxying them to both sides of the trigger, holding the broken pieces together, it works great agagin. I had to dremel/file down a little bit of the inside of the shell to accomodate for the now thicker trigger, but it worked.
