Is there a way to paint stefans, so you won't lose them. I don't think spray paint will work, wouldn't it eat away at the foam?

Well, you could take a paintbrush and some paint and do it the old fashioned way...might take a while though. Why dont you just give spraypaint a shot if you have some, or experiment with other methods if you dont?

I take my stefans and line them up in between two long pices of wood with the weight end down and put a dot of bright orange on the back. It makes it easier to see when they land in the grass. Just don't get any paint on the sides cause it will mess up the darts in the barrel.

I tried spray painting stefans and it works ok but the paint chips off over time and makes the darts crusty. Why dont you save yourself the trouble and just purchase some colored foam backer rod. I think you can get it in red.

Try using acrylic paint. It works great on foam. I take the end of the dart and dip it in a little dab of paint. Works well.

Spray paint does not eat away at the foam. Normal spray-paint, anyway.

It does, as Angel mentioned, come off over time.

It also makes your darts wider, as I discovered, so they

a.) don't want to go into your barrels anymore
b.) shed paint everywhere when they do
c.) lose range and accuracy because their extra fatness and asymmetry due to uneven peeling of paint causing extra friction

In stock barrels, where the barrel/dart contact is short, and there's not much friction, it could work, but I've found that in all my modified guns, all that happens in the paint comes off and gums up the works. I have a little cup of bright-orange-painted darts that I never use leftover from when I tried painting them, because they're useless now.

You *could* put paint on just the end, and that wouldn't cause extra friction, but the paint would still come off over time.

Moral: Spray paint doesn't work, but for different reasons than you guessed.

You could always use a different color foam. Log Home Store sells white FBR which is a lot easier to find in the grass, outdoors, etc. than the grey. I use this for my Stefans and it fits perfectly into 1/2" Flow Guard Gold CPVC that I get from Lowes. The only drawback is that it's a bit more pricey than the grey FBR. Forsaken_angel24 has some red foam for sale as well. Reviews of the foam sound very promising.

Painting the back end of your darts neon orange works pretty well, and although it does chip off over time, it takes a while to come off, and it doesn't seem to eat away at the foam.
