okay, nerfonline is back up, but frankly i don't know why. most of those articles will be put up on this site in the near future if i'm correct, i can't imagine who wants to look at those pictures anymore, and didn't hal also donate the videos to nerfhaven? i think the two things they have now that can't be found somewhere else on the internet is a music section to their store and some dude named larry chen.

correct me if i'm wrong, but i think putting nerfonline back up isn't very economically productive for hal and the bald rocket gang.

edit: maybe i'm not oldschool enough to know this, but who the hell is Larry Chen?

i'm sorry to say this, but i think if nerfhaven wants to keep up with the times, we're definately going to need a few Larry Chens around here.

Translated for your reading pleasure.

We've relaunched the site with a new design that simplifies the content organization.

Now you have to click "Read More > >" at the end of every paragraph so the ad banners will always be visible on the... Read More > >

All the articles are here in the same glory they were on the old site...

...even the ones that the authors requested we remove last year.

We've even added an extensive Nerf Store due to popular demand.

Hal... demanded it.

How come this newspost isn't funny?

This news post is funny, but not in the way we would prefer.

You guys gave them your content to put up? Or once you gave it to Hal, did he take it as his content?

Don't you guys have a rule about your content being nowhere else? Sue Hal's sorry ass. Or just get him to take it down.

Those articles were written while we were on the NO staff. That being the case, we haven't seen the point in getting super anal over this whole thing at this point. Personally, I don't see that much harm, I just don't like the way it might seem as if it's new content written exclusively for this "relaunch". I mean, this is stuff I used to think when I used to be on the NO staff. Anyway, thanks for the sentiment, but don't worry about it, we have it all sufficiently in hand.

Calm down IR, i think they have it all under control.

I hope they atleast put the mods, reviews and comics back up.

I still dont see the point in bringing it back when theres no forums or any new content.

Well see, he has this weird agreement he came up with that says:

All content and articles submitted to NerfOnline becomes the legal property of NerfOnline. By submitting content to us, you hereby share the copyright with us. You give us permission to post, display publicly, and otherwise distribute your work online.

Notice that there's no mention of any time frame for this 'copyright sharing' crap. I clicked past that page when I submitted my article to NO so legally I'm probably bound by it unless I want to hire a laywer to find a loophole.

A year ago when I knew I was going to open NH I asked him (nicely) to take my article down.

Fortunately, the shared copyright cuts both ways. I'll have all of Spoon's old articles up here soon and NO will be more or less a graphics-heavy mirror of about 15% of our content - with a really nice store.

I had thought about the resurrection of NO for a long time, but now that it's actually here, I'm realizing, the NO we know is gone. This is just another new Nerf site with a classic name. "Since 1997"? Yeah right. Hal's site was since 1997. The old NO is gone forever, most of the old members are gone forever, and the whole NO community is gone. I've never heard of Larry Chen, either. I wish they'd post a link to the down, but original NO site--that, although without forums, was still a great reference site for reviews, mods, and articles, etc.

This new NO has nothing that another Nerf site can't offer. Something I have yet to see in the NIC community is a Nerf site with everything--the closest I've seen come to that was NerfCenter. News, boards, reviews, that would have been the ultimate Nerf site if it had modifications. As far as I'm concerned, this new NO is a barren wasteland of classic articles and nice pictures. Nothing different to significantly distinguish it from any other Nerf site.

It's like this: when something's good, you leave it alone. NerfOnline is gone forever, folks, we'll never have it back, and I wish I'd realized this before. It's like a great movie that they make a bad sequel to--sometimes it's just better to leave something remembered as a good, but now deceased, thing. If this new NO plunges into the dirt, I hope the NIC will always remember what it used to be. I think NO should have been left alone, by itself, closed, and whoever this "Larry Chen" guy is should have purchased his own domain name instead of trying to recreate something that we all know and love(d). Hmmm, maybe I should give it a chance first, it might turn out okay, but at this point, it's too early to judge.

Whatever.

i'm telling you man, they may only have 15% of the content we've got here, but they've got 100% of the Larry Chens in the NIC. now, i'm thinking we're going to have to find a Larry Chen quick, otherwise we'll probably lose users, and that's no good. i want everyone on these forums to find themselves a Larry Chen, and invite him to join nerfhaven. we'll also have to update our store to include even more things no one will ever buy, and we'll need Groove to practice his photoshopping skillz. if we work together, and cxwq gets a good lawyer, i think we can render nerfonline completely useless in two weeks time.

I always thought the forums, or at least the history within, was the most important part of Nerf Online. The lack of said forums, at least as an archive, makes the site virtually useless to me. I'm not sure how helpful it will be to others, either. Well, at least there are the old war picture archives, and a dandy site design. I don't really think it's so worth bashing Mr. Chen... It's not like he's making any money off this. Or shouldn't, unless kids have issues finding rubber bands at local merchants...

The dude even has his own website, where he says Hal is his mentor :P ...

Question 1: Has Larry Chen ever nerfed a day in his entire life?

Question 2: Why then, is he running a NERF website?

Question 3: What, exactly, is the big fucking deal about a (yet another) graphical enhancement (meaning relaunch) of Nerf Online?

Conclusion: I'm going to go poo now.
