To throw in my two cents, I would enjoy a change of scenery when it comes to nerf. The LGLF's place sounds good to me for the spring war. With a hope and a pray I'll pass my driver's test in march and have a car sometime around then, so I could get three of us up there (myself, thewee1, and somebody else).

I also found another NJ nerfer over at NC and I've been emailing him over the past day or so. For all I know we could have another individual turn up for these wars.

During English class, I was talking with Evil and I think an NJ summer nerf series would be cool. Like every few weeks we all meet up at someone's place and just nerf. No names or websites needed, just some weeks to nerf. Evil wants this all to end with Apoc, but I'd like to see a war in the end of June, two in July, and two to three in August. Whoever wants to attend will and that's it. The phrase of "Keep it simple stupid" comes to mind at the moment.

No names or anything, nothing annual.

Anyone read my fucking post? This war is getting absolutely no name recognition. It's going to be a war like our old wars, just for fun. Not some annual event or big extravaganza. This is to hold us over for a while and just to enjoy ourselves. That's all. Read before this shit gets out of hand people, half of you sound like 4 year olds as is, let alone incompetant ones.

Reckoning had a name. Woopie. Same goes for Apoc.

This is just a war like any other. Just like it should be.

Is someone going to close this topic by any chance?

And ruin my entertainment? I do understand the sentiment however. YANO was my compromise between wanting a name for the sake of convenience and wanting to mock the general trend in names.

Why don't you just give the war a more descriptive, less WWF name like New Jersey Nerf Series so that people have something they can use to refer to it.

I mean, "That war in NJ, you know the one I'm talking about, no, not Apoc or Reckoning, that other one" does have a nice ring to it but it's a little long.

Sheesh! I merely stated that last year we said that we would hold GnomeFest during spring break or before APOC. I had no intention of coming up with some name like "Cataclysm" or "Judgement Day" or something, but I agree with CXWQ. We really should give it a name, but not some insane thing and then go wave it around, so I figured GnomeFest would be fitting.

Uhhh, Evil, dont go making a fuss out of not making a fuss for the names. All we did was have some fun with it.

And about the gnomefest place, I dont wanna piss on the parade and tell you its raining, but I think it would be hard to get us all there. And besides that, if its at our place, none of us have to move.

Isn't that reason the incentive for any clan/person to hold a war at their place? I know I wouldn't mind if I didn't have to go anywhere to nerf, just have people come to Iowa. Of course the idea of going to another place is so that you get to do something different. The point is don't just stay at home, try to attend some nerf wars in other states/cities. Sorry if that sounds like a moronic thing to say, but that's how I see it.

Well we've got the same problem. Why do you think we want to have it here? We've got six or seven new members, none of whom have driver's licenses, and we're already filling the Maxima to maximum capacity with our origonal five. And in reguards to you getting up here, you seemed to have managed it pretty well at GnomeFEST. Correct me if I'm wrong, but arent we closer to the horsemen and the other little NJ groups than you are anyway?

About ten. Perhaps more. The origonal five initiated members (Myself, Fred, Heefner, Anthony, and Alex) plus the five or six that were supposed to become memebers at the Reckoning. we'll probably be breaking them in as soon as the weather gets warmer, so they'll be active by spring, but I really need a big local event like this spring war to get them sold on nerfing.

Faime I have one question that has been burning a hole in my thoughts for awhile. Why do you want smaller wars? I think some other people would agree with me that smaller wars don't seem as fun as those that are bigger.

From our point of view yes. Small wars aren't as good as larger ones. But look at it from his point of view....

Nerfing with four of the most experienced nerfers around? Or nerfing with four of most experienced nerfers around and a bunch of fucking idiots? Hmmm....

Good question, I think I'll actually take the time to answer it:
you see, my feelings on team size all go back to the core of my spiritual beliefs: "All things in life are like Counter-Strike". Now, in CS, most people figure hey, the more the merrier, more kills, more bullets, more action. But anyone who's spent more hours playing CS then eating, sleeping, or interacting with humans can tell you that's not the case.

For every map there's kind of a soft cap as to how many players you can have at once for optimum game play, you want enough people to keep things interesting and for gameplay to last but not too many so that the "tactical team-based gameplay" breaks down into a frenzied free for all where everyone's just running around gang-raping lone opponents.

So you see, Nerf is obviously the same way. Once teams get above a certain size, say 7 people per team, organization begins to breakdown. Also with teams that large it's difficult for the efforts of one Nerfer to have a large impact on the outcome of the game. How many times at Reckoning did games end in a merciless 6 on 1 blood-hunt? Hell, I remember sitting around chatting with 2 or even 3 teammates while an even larger fireteam chased down the remaining stragglers from the opposition.

Large teams are fun every once in a great while, but for the most part smaller teams are much more enjoyable and there's a much more intimate atmosphere between teams and teammates. With 5 or 6 people per team you can assure that unless you have really god awful Nerfers, things will never get worse than a 2 on 4 or maybe a 1 on 3.... both of which are situations that are possible to fight your way out of, not easily, but possible.

Those are my thoughts and feelings on the subject since you asked.

Or for economics majors:
It could also be related to the laws of production, but instead of employees/laborers you have nerfers, and instead of total product you have total....er....fun(?) As you increase the number of nerfers from 2, the total fun increases with every additional nerfer. The increase in fun brought on by an aditional nerfer, or the "marginal fun", also increases with each additional nerfer. As the number of nerfers increase, you eventually reach a point where the marginal fun starts reducing. The total fun is still increasing with each additional nerfer, but by less and less. Eventually the marginal fun reaches the point of negativity, and the total fun begins to actually reduce with each aditional nerfer. The point where marginal fun peaks would be the point of fun equilibrium: the most desired number of nerfers attending a nerf war in a given situation.
I could make a chart, but it wouldn't help.

You obviously have never had a 45 person nerf war.... believe me, cluster fucks are just no damn fun when 90% of the occupants are male.

90% of 45?

Where'd you find the 4 (and a half) female nerfers Vacc? Be sure to bring them to the next Armageddon...

I'd have to agree with regards to war size. I'm sure it varies from location to location and with the relative maturity of the participants but 20 total combatants is my ideal number.

Hey guys, this is Fred from the LGLF (I'm a computer science major with a minor in mathematics, by the way). I'm all for holding this war in Middletown, considering that most of the LCM now possess drivers' licenses of some kind, and I'm willing to bust my ass to get this done (even if I am typing this in Piscataway right now). I just want to let you all know that if we do have the war in my town, it's going to be handled with the same responsibility that Apoc, Reckoning (wasn't there, but I'll assume it was done well cause Evil Angel was on it), and other wars were. Middletown Tindall Park has a large expanse of woods, a challenge-type course, and if a friend of mine is working the mini-golf course on that particular day, I think that might be an option for a cool twist on things. There is a McDonald's, a Pizza Hut, and two pretty good local pizza places within walking distance, and if you want to drive a few miles, I'd say there are at least 20 good places to eat.

I also agree that, in some situations, less is more. I don't believe that this war is the best opportunity for the LGLF to bring in at least 5, possibly as many as 8, new people who have never warred before. It's no insult to them, I just think that Langley, myself, and other people who have done this before should take a look at them first before throwing them into the "fire." Langley has agreed with me on this principle before, and I'm sure that we won't be playing a huge role in a potential clusterfuck.

Anyway, this is a cool new board and I'm looking forward to seeing my people in the LCM again, I'm sorry I missed all you guys @ Reckoning.

That's cute that you consider yourself our halfsized love child Howard but that's just not how The Horsemen see you..... we see you more as the LCM web-bitch.... kinda like Hal only without the skill or experience. Anyways, yeah from what Vacc said there were several girl nerfers at Armaggedon, I think the half came in with some confusion about Ozzy who, though completely fuckin badass, could be mistaken for a girl.

Yea there was the girl pole dancing, the girl sun bathing on the picnic bench, the girl that Jon brought, and Jenny who actually kicked ass the entire war.

Vacc is right though, a 45 person war is just plain not fun. It's an experience certainly.....I'll have to agree with Cxwq that with the people around us and their maturity and skilly levels, and the area we play in generally, 14-20 people is absolutely perfect. I wouldn't want to be in a >20 person Nerf war again I don't think. I certainly wouldn't want to run one.

The Fred, I think you said that most of the LCM will have driver's licenses. This is not true. Shindig gets his in March, and can take a maximum of three people (his brother WeeMan, another member, and himself). I can bring one other person. So that's only 5 between us. Maybe we could convince one of the Twins to talk to their father about driving a handful over there again. A small war sounds good and fun to me, I liked Famine's point about it being more tactically challenging. Big games kick ass, but small games are badass. I have no problem either way.

So their you have it, the war would have to be in May for Shindig and myself to take 5 people to the war. And that's only 5 of us. We would have to find another way for the other half of our team to get there. We could probably manage however.

Does anyone have a problem with having the war in mid-May?

Evil,

No problems here, except for the very slight possiblity that I would have a weekend final exam the exact day of the war. I wonder if my professor would buy Nerf as an excuse for a conflict exam...?
