Anyaseijin and Daniel made it out, with Arrow and a newbie in tow.
Nearly all of the Knights were there. Snake was unable to attend (he looks like a chipmunk right now due to the removal of his wisdom teeth, so he chose to remain at home) and Nightwing was only able to be there to take pictures for a short while, but EVERYONE else was there.
We only played a total of four rounds throughout the day, but an awesome day it was.
First round was standard west coast 5-hit. Great round; some pretty sick dodges by a few people. Fun stuff.
Then, of course, we had to sweep for darts. And the Cullen urban area was absolutely COVERED with leaves. So dart pickup took a decent amount of time. By the time the round (which, in and of itself, took about an hour and a half) and the dart sweep were over, it was time to break for lunch.
So we went to lunch, and then met back at one of our backup schools (Sellers Elementary).
We played another west coast 5-hit round once we got there and got ourselves off of our lazy bums.
And that round, I am proud to say, was the cause for the only gun obituary of the day.
My prized Crossbow-Turreted Splitfire integration is in four pieces right now.
STORY TIME!
So Seijin was opposite from me across a chain link cage around some circuit box thing, and he charged and I hit him with a quick spray from my splitfire. Punisher and Apollo (also on the other team) were behind me a short distance away, and Punisher decided to rush at me. I recklessly popped off a one-handed shot from the main barrel of my crossbow, which missed him. I continued to run around towards his and Apollo's left flank my right) as I re-pumped my turreted Splitfire. I got it pumped and twisted the two turrets, and brought it to bear on Punisher, pulling the trigger as I ran. Somehow, in the confusion, I had managed to turn my turrets to unloaded barrels. That has actually never happened to me before, so of course, I wasn't too happy.
Punisher was now firing his second shot at me. I had dodged the first, and I managed to dodge the second as I tried to turn back to face the direction I was running (in hopes of being able to pump it again.) I dodged that second shot when my feet got tangled as I attempted to turn, and I ended up falling on my shoulder, which felt far less graceful than it looked. It looked like a diving roll, but, truth be told, I was just eating shit.
Anywho, I "rolled" underneath his second shot, having finished pumping my SF again, and, turning the turrets one more time as he closed (with Apollo not far behind) I brought my gun to bear on Punisher. And 3/4 of the gun wasn't there.
I was holding a Splitfire, with no turrets attached. The Crossbow was no longer part of the gun; it was only a Splitfire shell I held, with two cut up 3/4" Sch 80 PVC elbows glued to it. The Epoxy had cracked under the strain of my fall (it's not like I really rolled over the gun...more like I landed on it...
Anyway, so I came back home at the end of the day with a fully functional crossbow that was missing a huge chunk out of the foregrip, a Splitfire with no barrels and a shell hacked to pieces, and two identically brassed turrets.
In retrospect, it's going to be a very simple fix. I was actually planning on dremeling off the epoxy to pull the gun apart in a few places so I could paint the parts individually and clean up the glue job. Today just did it for me.
But fear not! The blade that was broken shall be re-forged! Funny, that I had named it Anduril...Now, once it's been reassembled, it'll be far more fitting, lol. I suppose for posterity's sake I'll call it Narsil for now..
But I must say, the reactions of some of the people there were hilarious...
"HOLY SHIT! WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED?"
And, of course, my personal favorite...
*walks up to a table with people who are out, holding the pieces*
Daniel took one look at me, not knowing what had happened, saw the pieces, stood up, and gave me a hug with a sappy "teared-up" look on his face.
Wow, that was funny.
Treat your guns right, kiddies.
Anywho, after that round, we ran a pistol round (I sat out and took photos; photos will be posted in the next day or two...we took a LOT of pictures today) and then played a CTF round after screwing around with Hand to Hand for a short while.
All in all, it was a great day.
Great to see those who we haven't had around in a good while! We had a fair deal of chatting about those who are considering flying out to Apocalypse next August. It's going to be AWESOME.
Okay, so I'll end my post now. I figure I've said enough for now. I'll get the pictures off of Adam as soon as I can, and get them up here.
