I was talking to my friend robbie (also a modder) and he found out about google patent search and told me there were nerf gun patents like crazy. Here are a bunch me and him found.

They are the patent applications of the guns. Yes, they are drawings, but it shows exact internals, prototypes guns, and explanations of the patents. Its like a part of Nerf's history basically.

I find it a little humorous that you guys didn't know about patent searches until Google jumps in the game.

The USPTO website has had this information on a slow and somewhat archaic system for years. Other websites organized the information on a much faster database during the past few years (which is what I've been using until just recently). And now Google jumps in and suddently it's new. I've looked at most all of these years before.

Don't get me wrong though. Google has done it better than anyone else in the game now (except for what USPTO employees get to use which is markedly better than anything). That combined with the exposure Google gets makes for unusual "discoveries" like this. I only find it sad that some great things don't get the amount of exposure Google does.

Also, one thing that might help some of you guys is the fact that all patent information (pictures, text, etc.) is public domain and can be reposted as you please. I've already developed a water gun patent database offline and I would suggest that someone does the same for Nerf. Someone should start putting the information in a speadsheet with some notes and such on each patent. You should find there's a lot of great information out there in the patent database.

What also will help you guys find all Nerf guns would be a search for Hasbro in the assignee field. That field is for what company the patent is assigned to.

Hasbro, Mattel, Larami, buzz bee, johnson research etc. would all be adequate search queries. Try inventor names like Lonnie Johnson and others that you see.
