The spring can be strengthened no more either. I tried but the catch wasn't catching.
Posted Image

In the quote is a pic of the last pump action shotgun modification and below it is the one we will be working on.
Yes it is the same one I put back on the table in disgust in the last video.
I mentioned The catch wasn't catching at all with a spring that was too strong. We will be working on that today as well.

Alright so some of the mods in this are still the same. These similarities include Double coupler system, stretching around the extension spring, 12" barrel of 9/16" and some others not worth mentioning things. To learn these look up original pump action shotgun modification in the mods directory.

Lets get started.

Complete the coupler mod as done in the first one but dont add 19/32" brass yet.

Now lets work on strengthening that catch.
You may not need too but find a bigger torsion spring. Look at the puppy I found!
Posted Image

Now take the trigger out of your gun and shave the square part part down untiil the torsion spring sits fairly flat against the trigger. Now cut your new torsion spring down to size . Keep one end long like I did. I would even suggest keeping the left side even a bit longer than I did.

Posted Image

Now are going to want to find a washer that has a small inner hole and a base wide enough to keep the torsion spring in place. Place the torsion spring down onto trigger than put down the washer then brown plastic washer . Now the screw you were working with is too small so now you need to find a replacement. I used and old longer screw from a Nitefinder. Maverick screws should work just as well.

Now take a peice of PVC and cut it down so it will fit inside the shell of the gun on an angle and as snug to the trigger assembly as possible. Take your tiniest dremel bit and put a large pinhole in the pvc close to the edge.
That long leg of the torsion spring is going in there. Now cut a small peice of CPVC and do whatever it takes to help keep the PVC snug in place. This part gets a bit tiring. Hold the two peices as snug as you can and hot glue the shit out of them! We cannot afford to have these peices come loose.

Now it is time to stengthen the catch even more. Cut a semi-strong small spring down to size and have it go from the trigger, under the torsion leg and into a wall of hot glue made by yourself. Glue the spring in place for extra security where it is not touching the trigger.
Posted Image
Here is a video of the trigger mech now. The video is kinda dark but you get the idea.
Catch mechanism.

Now that the catch is godly it is time to make the rest of the gun just as godly.

Lets look at the head peice of the gun. The winged orange peice.

The only difference this time the 19/32" will be sitting flush at the end. Bringing the dart closer to the action.
Fill in the voids with hot glue. This will increase air pressure and decrease wasted air.
Posted Image

Now for something original:

Go to the hardware store and pick up a sponge gasket. It is a foam rubber.
Now cut out a ring of equal thickness as mine and hot glue it on there.
Posted Image
Your gun now has two stopping points. The rubber will cushion/silence/slow the plunger head down at the very end of the plunger tube and this will help take stress off the other heavy duty stock rubber stopper at the back of the plunger which originally took 100% of the blow. Now remember there was a gap between the plunger head and the brown peice originally. You want to cut the rubber so its a bit longer than the gap.
Neat huh? This can be done to more or less all springers! This method works very well.

Now onto the plunger. I took off the two O-rings and added 1.5 loops around the plunger head with a peice of E-tape no wider than the place for the O-rings and then put back the O-rings. The seal is much better now.

We wont be using as much hot glue this time. I found that the amount of hot glue used before was tons and The old method keeps alot of tension on the plunger head at all times.
Fill the brown backing peice up with hot glue and then go over the flush level with the brown peice. Now take your knife and cut the glue so its flush and flat. Pretty much skimming the excess crap off the top. This will create a nice flat surface for your new springs.

Thats right I said springs.
Posted Image
Three springs to be exact. The stock spring, an industrial spring and a stock spring from a whiptail scorpion. (Yes they can serve a purpose.)

Now the gun is great so far but with this kinda strength we need to reinforce. Here are some pictures of what you should reinforce if you want your pump shot gun to last. The catch reinforcement was drawn in because I accidentally deleted the photo and I do not want to open the gun again.
Posted Image

Here are some spots I found that were great for additionally silencing the gun beyond what I had done before.
Posted Image

Now this puppy is strong, durable and silenced well.
Time for a range test.

Conditions. -1 degrees. just below freezing. (This brings down range)
Wind: Coming from the North I was shooting into the West. Wind sent darts about 4-5 feet max of where I was aiming. In other words not that strong.
Method of measurment: My favorite 200' tape measure!
Darts used: Red and Black stefans.
Surface: Cold grass.

The cold seemed to affect my darts. They got smaller meaning not as much of an air seal.
The first dart I fired was a 3/4" dart and it spiraled out of control and still hit 107!

So here are the ranges with the loose fitting darts.
Black 117'
Red 135.2' and 139'

The ranges with the two darts I had that were still fairly snug in the tightening rings.
Black 164'
Red 163'

I only had my measuring tape rolled out to 140' when the darts sailed further I almost shed a tear.

This is not a gun for weaker nerfers though. I am lucky my other hobby is bodybuilding. I can cock it fine but I asked one of my buddies to cock it and he had to brace the gun against his chest and use two hands but he has very little muscle right now so if you are athletic you should be fine cocking this gun.
The catch is very strong and will not fire even if the gun is dropped. This gun does not have a name yet but soon will.

She is in the middle of a paint job. That should be finished in a little while. I hope you enjoyed this modification. These pump action shotguns are on sale for $25 at Bass pro shops as of Dec 8th. (I should be getting payed for plugs like that)

Comments? Praises? Questions? Suggestions?

Aren't the trigger awfully hard to press down and fire the gun?

Agreed.

So what color are you going to paint it, or haven't you decided?

My xbow consistently gets in the 140+ range with a nested brass barrel, and is sexier. It also cocks easier, and the whole thing is under a LOT less stress. Dethroning I think not, nice try though :o

Wow. Now I have to put off my AT3K, Defender T3, and SM1.5K and do this. That is absolutely amazing. And with the cold weather decreasing ranges? Man, pretty soon, your gonna get this thing to hit 200'. :o
Great job on yet another crazy mod.

Oh, a real quick question: Do you the dimensions of that Whiptail Scorpion spring?

Holy doritos! You squeezed at least 60'-70' more out of this thing. Amazing. As far as dethroning the x-bow, I'm not quite sure the pump shot gun dethroned it, but the x-bow finally has true competion. Now on to the questions:
1. what did you loop 1.5 times around the plunger head?
2. where did you get the new torsion spring?
3. I'd guess yo have close to perfect seal if not perfect, do you have a problem with vaccum loading darts andhaving them get stuck in the plunger assembly?
4. how much did the weather affect testing? How much farther would it shoot in warmer weather?

Amazing mod, keep them coming.

Please tell whether that statement is sarcastic or not.

FA24, your work is possibly the next generation of modding, plus you always include videos to enhance the visual aspect of the rightup.

*toast to your honor.

Although I'm quite curious about the Whiptail Spring...

Sweet mod and great, believable (by me at least) ranges. And using parts from a toilet, coool!
I think somebody should try the exact same internal mods with the twelve shot one, and Brass or CPVC the barrels on it. Imagine 12 shots from a springer all getting over 120' for under $35. Sweet if you ask me. I would buy this and try it myself, but I am very low on funds right now after spending $600 on nerf in two months.

I did this write up this morning in a rush. I edited it alot just now. I cannot beleive how many errors I had missed in my hastiness.

Anders: The trigger is not hard to depress at all. I would say its as easier than depressing a teenager. I dont pull the trigger by the loop on this one. I push down on the very end tip of the trigger and its super easy.

Lancaster: Thank you

Trogdor. I have a few ideas in mind. The rest of the paint was going to be on the barrel. Or I was thinking of turning everything that was brown to red. I still got a few ideas in the air.

Sir Tofu: Wow, I sense a little bit of jealousy and exaggeration. This thing isnt really that stressed. I put about 10 shots through this thing with no reinforcement then I opened it up and there were no signs of stress. I then reinforced it and put over 50 shots through it. I opened it one last time, snooped around and again there were no stress marks. When it comes to sexyness and guns it really comes down to the eye of the beholder. But I'll bet with a gaping open hole in the front and bungees on yours that mine is infact sexier and cleaner looking. The X bow is known for 3 main things. Range, Accuracy and the comfortable stock.
Even if what you claim your gun can do then it comes down to this.
The best stock without a doubt goes to the X bow
The best accuracy is yet to be determined as this thing is very very accurate with a 12" barrel. I am not done my X-bow yet so I can compare those when it is done.
The best and in my opinion the most important trait of the X-bow is its range and that has been smashed by the awesome ranges of this gun. Farthest shooting springer was always the X-bow and now it is the Pump action shotgun. And even if your range is true I still got a 24 foot increase on ya. In my eyes the X-bow has been without a doubt dethroned.

Retiate: Thank you, I do not know the dimensions of the whiptail scorpion spring. Its like a nitefinder spring but a little bit longer and about 2/3 the width.

Sam: 1 I used E-tape I edited my original post to make that more clear.
2 I got the springs at a warehouse. They were all overstock. I was this place out in Cambridge called Fixco. I spent $50 on springs. I however got about 40+ springs all stronger than nerf stock springs. I also got about 10 torsion springs just to see which one would work specifically for this application.
3 The barrel breaks apart. It is breech loading if you check out the original pump action shotgun mod and you will see how it works.
4 The cold weather probably affected my darts by cutting out 5-8 feet in range. So potentially this thing could hit 170' but lets not say my gun can do that untill I actually see a dart travel that far. Unfortunately that wont be untill the spring.

WarX: Well thank you very much. I try to come up with new things. Videos are fun to do and I plan on doing another video for this one as well I just havent thought of any thing I can videotape for this write up.

Big Bob: Thanks, as soon as they start carrying the 12 shot at Bass pro shops you can expect a write up.

EDIT: For the record you may not need to find a stronger torsion spring. Just look for a really strong spring to put behind the trigger and have the other end meet with a wall hot glue.

Forsaken: I was just giving ya a little knee jerk, nice job. But it sounds like it is a bitch to cock, and since I base weapons on reliability and ease of use, I would have no use for this shotgun in a war, but good demonstration.

This does not sound like a "knee jerk"(whatever that means). If your getting your xbow at 140' then that is probably under a lot of stress.

Forsaken, Is this plunger smaller or larger than a LS plunger?

Nice mod!

I know that it is a breech mod, but my coupler'd BBB is breeched in the same fashion, with a seal not nearly as good as yours, and i have to worry about vaccum loading. Do you just cock the gun and then put the barrel on? Thanks for the answers

Nerfer34: The plunger is larger. I can comfortably say the plunger head is 5/3 to twice as large as the longshot plunger head. It is also alot fatter than the Crossbow plunger head.

Sam: Yes, that is exactly what I do.

With the pump action on this thing, how long until you decide to put a clip system together for it?

Well I was thinking of putting a clip system even on my old pump action shotgun but then the 12 shot pump action shot gun came out and I want to see mess around with that thing first before I decide make a clip for any of these. I was thinking of somehow pulling a Falcon.

Z80: I can only hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.

Assassin NF: I am glad you enjoyed the mod. Thanks for the compliment. They keep me going with these write ups.

Evil: It is always good to hear a compliment from a vet.

agentM192: I was thinking of making another one and selling it on E-bay. I will post in the trading section If I decide to do this.

Nube: I have no clue if they are available at Gander mountain as I have never been to one. Why dont you call them and find out. They are available at many sources on the internet.

Now what we have all come to see, Gun porn!

Yep, another beast is coming shortly, if I know angel. Great job man. You never cease to remind us what nerf is all about. Way to go on another kickass gun.
