Not to be a noob, but I've never heard of a derringer.

Derringers are a class of small pocket pistols commonly used during the "Wild West" days. The word "Derringer" is not the word that was actually used for the first of these pistols made by Henry Deringer. Commercial manufacuters added the extra "r" in the name to avoid lawsuits and trick unsuspecting buyers into thinking that their guns were actual Deringers. Since then, the word Derringer (with two Rs) has become the commercially used name for these pocket pistols.
Guilo:
You're going to have a hell of a job making this pump-powered, because Derringers are, by definition, the smallest usable pistols of a caliber. If you were willing to expand the design a bit, you might have room for a pump in the very bottom of the grip, below the muzzle, or on the slide. As for good range, we might have to dedicate most of the gun to an air tank. It might just be easier to make a spring-powered one...

Yeah, that is the problem I had with the design. It may have to go up to a normal pistol size, unfortunately, but I am still going to try. I was thinking about an external pump, that attaches to a nozzle of some sort on the bottom of the grip. The handle would then be the air tank. Will that work?

I've done this and I keep one in my pocket in all of my wars. I also only attached the cpvc handle with electrical tape, followed by wrapping the entire gun in tape.
I know you said that you wanted to design one, but if that fails than you could always revert to our way.

Remember the Laser Fang? The Priming handle was a part of the barrel. If you could somehow get your barrel to double as a pump/plunger then you could make a very compact little pistol. Finding a place to put the trigger valve would be very complicated though. If you're trying to get a feel for how things work though, you may want to try and build a copy of an SSPB instead of using a complicated design like what I've suggested above.
No, I never heard of the Laser Fang, but I did a search on it, and it looks fairly easy to build actually. Thanks for the idea. I am going to start planning on that now, as I actually know something about homemade spring guns, unlike pump guns.

This may sound stupid but you could make it a combustion nerf pistol. Though dangerous if made correctly can be effective.
Well, the only thing is, I don't think I would enjoy my hand getting blown off from an accident. Don't get me wrong, if I had the right materials that were strong enough to handle it, I would probably do it, but that could get kind of expensive.

It wouldn't be much more compact than any other design, though, and I wouldn't count on the fuel staying mixed for very long.

A combustion pistol would not be dangerous, unless you were a complete idiot with it.
Apparently you've never been to Delaware...
Anyway, it might be best to attempt a spring-powered pistol first. That's just my own opinion, so do whatever floats your boat.

Ok, I think I will try a spring gun first.
Thanks for all the responses.
