How hard would it be for some of the current NIC to try to rebuild NO? Hal is obviously paying no attention to it. If somebody bought the domain it might be possible. Comments?

It would be impossible. NO was a rather unique site, and many of the people from it have left, so even if you did reopen nerfonline.com, it wouldnt be NO.

NHQ and NH both have things in common with NO that I've noticed. Nerf Online is gone, friend - we don't need to bring it back to life when there are other things replacing it.

In all seriousness "bringing back NO" wouldn't be worth the time. It'd be like any new site, except with the name recognition of the old. You have Nerf Haven, Nerf HQ, and most recently Nerf Evolved. There's no point in trying to bring back a site which had it's time and did what it had intended.

I would imagine that many of the members of NO, those that were influential anyway, have probably moved on as well. Assembling the old staff would be a task I'm guessing. The closest thing you're gonna have to NO is this site. So pat CX and Vacc on the back.

I dont know about that. We could mail the Horsemen over to England in crates, then they would go on a nerfing rampage until he was found.

That fucker wouldn't get far. We'd hunt him down and do our best to avoid the english food. We'd need a month's supply of bagels.

Bringing back NO wouldn't be a bad idea if you had a supply of unique content to go along with the old. A few people with a hankering to see NO live, that have some programming knowhow could get it back up again, and maybe keep it nice and spiffy? I'd think that if you have a new group of people running the site, that it would spice it up a bit more.

I've decided it's not worth starting a new topic on, so I'll post this little tidbit of information here.

NerfOnline, unfortunately, is finally dead. Go to NerfOnline, and it's a 404 Error. Either something with the site is screwed, or Hal finally decided to stop paying for the domain.

Darn.

Well a whois should be able to confirm that...

<..snip..>

Domain Name: NERFONLINE.COM

Created on..............: Tue, Apr 03, 2001
Expires on..............: Sat, Apr 03, 2004
Record last updated on..: Fri, Aug 22, 2003

Administrative Contact:
   Electronic Mayhem
   Hal Bergman

<..snip..>

He actually seems to have just renewed it in April though there was a record update yesterday. Perhaps it's just moving to a new server and we need to let DNS changes propagate, perhaps the domain is being parked and the site won't be available anymore, either way you could email him and find out.

Edit: Since Hal declined to respond to my IM when he logged in just now, I'll assume he's not terribly concerned about our suspicions.

Since I hadn't responded to the whole 'bring back NO' thing until now, all I have to say is this:

NO: Hal, Goo, Spoon, Vacc, Cxwq

NH: Spoon, Vacc, Cxwq

Do you really want to go back?

I know I could really care less. "New Management" to me means "Whoever couldn't hack it under their own name so they offered Hal oral sex in exchange for his server and domain" Hell, it's not even the same logo. If I've learned anything from the NIC over the years its that you can never go back. As Nerf and its players evolve so to will the NIC. Every two or three years there must be a shift in power as a new generation steps up to take responisiblity for the NIC and make their own unique contributions to it.
