Idea For "nerf-proof" Vest

Kind of like a bullet proof vest, just not as good...

I have an idea for a "Nerf protection vest" for those whiney friends/newbs who can't stand a lot of foam.

I was thinking maybe you could take vest (any kind that fits you) and add some sort of protective plating. I was thinking maybe taking one of those semi-hard/floppy "Keep Out" signs you find at the hardware store and trimming it down to the proper size. You can then put it on the outside or inside of the vest (I haven't decided) and secure it by duct-taping it.

Wouldn't cardboard wrapped in tape work just fine? It's a lot cheaper and you dont have to deal with any sheet metal.

Good point. I have seen some of those signs that i was talking about, but they are actually hard plastic.

If Nerf evolves anything like real firearms (which it has to some extent), the creation of armor that repels darts will lead to the development of weapons that can penetrate that armor, rendering it useless and making you look stupid. Of course, you already DO look stupid wearing fuckin' armor when you're playing Nerf. Unless you want Titans allowed in wars to combat oversensitive pussies donning cardboard plating, don't talk about how to create Nerf-proof anything. I say the best material you can use to repel attacks in a Nerf war is the air you just vacated in a dodge. If anyone's friends can't withstand a foam attack without crying, I would suggest telling those people to find some pillows and go at it. I admit there are guns that can hurt and leave welts, but the whole point of playing a game where you shoot each other is that you don't want to be shot. If darts glanced harmlessly off your chest, how much fun would Nerf be? It's not on the same level of pain as paintball and airsoft, but there's still a reason in Nerf to avoid oncoming fire. I just think that creating armor for Nerf is unwise. As my contribution to the topic, however, I will say that the vests in Dart Tag sets can be homemade with commonly available foam sheeting, and has the dual benefits of protection and Velcro adhesion properties (in case you want to go at it with stock Tagger Darts).

I'd have to agree with OMC on this one. No one can honestly say that they enjoy getting shot multiple times up close by powerful blasters, but that's no excuse to wear 'armor'. Loose clothing works fine. And if it doesn't work fine, try getting shot from farther away next time.

My personal technique is to not get hit. I find it works pretty well. But hey, that's just me.

I've been shot with every high powered nerf gun under the sun. Brassed sm5k's, titans, and 1500's. If you can't take it then just don't play.

Ask Talio or Langley what it was like getting shot in the face from close range. I drew blood on Langley. I've gotten welts and all kinds of miserable marks from various blasters out there. It's part of the game.

For the record, I don't fear a gun that shoots holes through fucking STYROFOAM. Come talk to me when you're blasting through sheet metal.

The only reason I came up with the idea was that my little sister likes to have nerf wars with me, and se can't stand even stock rounds from an NF. If she has "armor", I can use heavier weapons.

Also, I have seen the armor-piercing mountain gun.

Simple, just duct tape kittens or puppies to your sister so when you shoot at her, they hit the kittens / puppies instead. Kittens actually make great protective padding. Personally, I never leave home without them.

On a more serious note, why on Earth would you be letting your little sister play? Not gonna lie, but you're just setting yourself up for disaster with that one. For real. Don't get me wrong, I've Nerfed along side and against some females, and some of them could actually take hits better than most of the guys could. Gender and age issues aside, I think you need to find some new Nerfing companions.

Seriously.

Cardboard armor is practically useless in wars & engagements. Either a dart doesn't hurt enough for you to bother wearing protection, or the dart travels fast enough that normal nerf armor composites cannot stop the dart. Nerf armor composites... what a weird way to say cardboard/ styrofoam.

That said...

I would not hesitate to wear a n-strike armor suit to a nerf war. I've been working on one since I got my LS because it's absolutely badass. I helmet needs a HUD though, like in the n-strike dvd. Man I'm a total geek. Makes a cool Halloween costume though :D .

Good idea with stuffed animals. I do it because she wants to and if I don't, she gets annoying.

Stuffed animals?

Who said anything about them being stuffed? Unless of course you mean filled with soft squishy food, so that they provide even more cushioning.

But on a serious note: try and find some other people to Nerf with. There's nothing wrong with Nerfing with your sister; but if you want to use 'heavier weapons' find people more willing to get hit. My general rule is that if I feel bad about shooting them, they're not the right kind of person to be playing with seriously. If we're just dicking around inside, that’s another story.

But if you want to have a more 'intense' war, find several people about your age or older and play with them. Don't try and up-armor your sister so she can take more and more hits so she eventually becomes a target. That’s not fun for you or her. And fun is what this is all about, right?

I meant stuffed animals, aka puppies who just had their kibbles 'n bits.

I Nerf with my friends all the time, but when I'm not with my friends, I have to satisfy my "need for nerf".

I don't know about you but I feel kindof silly wearing something to protect me from bullets made of foam backer rod? Sure the darts hurt a little but really its NOT that bad.

As others in this thread have said, just wear a sweat shirt.

I totally agree on this one. My friends older sister was at home with her boyfriend and we were havin' a party and were in the middle of a match when she grabbed a firefly layin around full-0-ammo and let loose. She thought nerf was those "Sissy litty foam balls and such" and she ended up on one of the teams. We were inside and she was getting shot a HELLOVA LOT LESS than we were (5 guys) (2 noobs 1 pro v 2 pro) and she was havin a great time. (shes a senior now and it was in the summer break). I can see playing with yer sis, but you are gonna get grounded when you nail her just right and she starts cryin' saying MOMMY HE HURT ME! B) So I suggest not trying to get her armor, and trying to work on your aim and skills with weak guns.

My methodology to be Armored is Duck, weave, and most importantly PAY ATTENTION FOR ONCE IN YOUR FREAKING LIFE!!! If you look, you can see how your opponent is aiming, and wait untill he firesand just sidestep or duck. DEHR!!!.

Well that be my $0.02.

Yea, it was too much. Usually when someone already makes fun of the lame poster in a humerous fashion (as Groove did), it's best to stop there. Because now you just look like an idiot and you didn't tell the kid anything new anyway. Leave the trash talking to the professionals.

Here's my input if anyone cares.....

1) Don't be a wuss

2) If you can't take the heat, get out of the oven

3) Tell your sister if she doesn't want to get shot, then don't play

There's my $ 0.02

Maybe you should try one on one standoffs from opposite sides of the room, just be sure to wear eye protection because when you pop one from behind a couch youll probobly get shot in the face. BUt make a half way line that you cant pass, plus moving couches around is fun because you can makes bases.
