I have'nt contributed anything to NH in the past few months and was really excited about this mod so I decided to do a write-up and share it with everyone.

My L'nLs have been through a lot. They've had CPVC, constricted brass, brass in PVC and Crayolas. Recently I decided to give them a complete overhaul and this is what I came up with.

I wanted to add 4" of Sch. 80 on each one, but didn't want to Dremel out the cases to put in PVC couplers, and I didn't know how to attach the PVC to the nub left over on the plunger tubes from cutting off the stock barrels. I came up with a fairly original solution. Finally, here's the mod.

Materials:

L'nL
Thin paper, the kind that is white and comes in 8 1/2 by 11" sheets
Pen, pencil or something of similar diameter
Approximately 4" of 1/2" Sch. 80 PVC
Hacksaw/PVC cutters/pipe cutters
Hot glue gun
Dremel, exacto, file or something else to carve out the end of the case
Small springs to replace the trigger and catch spring, only if you need to

Procedure:

First, open up your L'nL. There's a screw on the opposite side from all the rest on the barrel end of the gun. Once you've got it open, replace the springs if you need to and take out the plunger tube. Here's a picture of how the catch and trigger mech go in case a spring or the entire trigger flies out:

If you haven't done so already, chop off the stock barrel at the part where it tapers off.

I've seen this in some other mod write-ups, notably crankymonky's NF mod, and supposedly the idea was pioneered by NinjZ, so props to him for it: take some e-tape and wrap it around the plungerhead for a better seal. My plunger tube is completely filled with gunk and I can't get it out, so this step was completely necessary for me. If you already have a good seal, you don't have to do it. Here's a picture of the wrapped plungerhead:

Now plug in your glue gun and let it heat up. While it's doing so, grab your paper and a pen, pencil or other object, take the paper and wrap it around the object. Then pull the paper tight so that it's snugly around the object. This can be tricky to perfect. Here's a picture to show you what I mean, it's hard to explain:

Posted Image

Once you've got it pulled taut around the object, try to push the folds back over each other so you have a cylinder of paper made up of several layers. Then cut it to about 1.5 or 2". By now the glue gun should be heated up, so take the paper section, put it in the nub on the end of the plunger tube and let it expand freely until it's snug and its own outward force pushes it up against the inside of the nub, increasing its strength:

Posted Image

Make SURE that the paper doesn't go inside the plunger tube, only the nub on the end of it. Wrap a little bit of tape around the cylinder, make sure the other end fits in the Sch. 80 and glue it in:

Posted Image

Don't unplug your glue gun yet, you'll need it later. Next, take your Sch. 80, mark it off at about 4", or whatever length you want as long as it's reasonable (I'm leaving it up to you to decide what's reasonable) and cut it. I used a Sharpie to mark mine before cutting it:

Posted Image

After it's cut take that section of PVC and put the cut end over the paper cylinder on the end of the plunger tube, and push it down until the PVC touches the end of the nub, but be careful not to smash the paper. Glue the back of the PVC so it's bonded with both the paper and the end of the nub:

Posted Image

Now, this is the easiest part and my L'nL had already had it done from previous mods, so I have no picture. Take your Dremel and shave out the end of the gun so that's it's just wide enough to accomodate the PVC and pinches it a little bit. It's vitally important that the hole isn't too wide; this way it will help hold the PVC in place.

Finally, put everything back in place and glue the end of the gun (the part where you Dremeled out the hole for the barrel) shut around the PVC so that it's in there very tight and won't come out. Here's the finished product:

It looks like the barrel extends out too far from the gun, but keep in mind that it's only 4". Besides, I like it better with a longer barrel.

Now you're finished! You can customize it any way you want. I recommend adding bands for the best performance. I hope you enjoyed this mod.

Is Schedule 80 anything like pex tubing? I see that you are using Schedule 80 nipple tubing. I personally think (through experience) think that if you put a female coupler on the end of the barrell in the threaded section that it makes loading a little easier. I use it on my multibarrelled coupler X-bow. Were you the one that looked at my clipped Mav and Gedon? If so you saw the X-bow in question.
We should stop calling out/making fun of/pissing GC off. He's actually contributed and is available for trade. He's a better than average member no doubt. Got your back Cole.

Sadly I live 3,000 miles from where Armageddon is held, so no, I never saw your Crossbow, at least not in real life.

I've never used PEX so I can't tell you if it's similar to Sch. 80. Do you mean put a threaded coupler in the gun itself or over the end of the barrel? I'm not sure what you mean, but I didn't want to add a coupler because that would make it very ugly and in this mod I was looking for ROF and simplicity. A coupler on this gun would overcomplicate it and reduce its ROF, and without a range increase from using a coupler I really don't see the point.

Oh, on the end of the barrel. So that I could...more easily hit the end of the barrel with the dart when loading it? Or to screw on separate sections of barrels? The barrel's long enough as it is, and I have no trouble getting the dart in the barrel even when hurrying to load it.

EDIT: In response to sam's post: Thanks. The paper is simply to bridge the gap between the barrel and the end of the plunger tube.

I wanted to add 4" of Sch. 80 on each one, but didn't want to Dremel out the cases to put in PVC couplers, and I didn't know how to attach the PVC to the nub left over on the plunger tubes from cutting off the stock barrels.

I think it looks sweet, but what is the point of the paper? Does it constrict the dart or what?

I mean a female coupler on the end of the threads on the Schedule 80 barrell.

PEX uses the CTS system, so its sizes are pretty close to those of CPVC. That should make it pretty easy to compare, as I'm sure you've all used CPVC.

First off I want to say Dang you have a nice camera. That shows a heck of alot of alot of detail. But great mod! You should consider a paint job, just not the genaric black.

I've thought of doing a camo paintjob or maybe something bright and completely unique. I've even thought about all white. But since I've only got two L'nLs I think I'll wait until I have some more experience painting other guns because right now my skills with painting are lacking at best.

As long as you dont do anything too complacated painting isnt that hard. Try just doing the whole thing in one color (I would recomend you not do black too realistic and too "thats what everyone else does") And If you really screw it up theres always paint thinner or you could paint over it.
But caution is never a bad thing and it is of course your choice in the end.

Edit: You never answered Sam's question about the paper. I was kinda wonderiing about that too.
