IMO this is a bad idea, nerf guns and foam swords don't mix (and I have tried to do so)
People get mad, guns get broken and people get hurt.
Lets just leave it at that...

Have you ever thought of searching for a topic like this cuz' there be a gazillion of them. Melee in nerf is lame someone has a sword waits for the person to shoot and then charges them.

Ah, come on! This is a great topic, there's nothing like breaking your opponent's jaw with the stock of a LongShot. It gives a nice, satisfying crunch.

I have actually made foam swords, staffs, etc. and used them in nerf wars and hand-weapon only wars. For standard swords, some long, others elven-style and long knives, I took PVC, and put insulation foam over most of it, but left enough PVC out as the handle. For staffs, I obviously put insulation over the whole 6ft PVC pole, and put a water bomb at one end. I'll post pictures sometime soon.

Anyways, in my experience, wars with nerf guns and swords are the most interesting and intense, and just plain flat out most fun wars all together.

In our CTF games we usually use swords and shields for the flags; it puts a nice twist on gameplay and also really enforces teamwork 'cause you can't use your guns when you have the flag...

As long as your swords are PVC (it bends) and foam-isulated, you shouldn't have a problem with pain. Gun tapping still kills, but considering the flagbearer has a sheild and a 3 ft. sword... yea.

I actually don't find this to be true. If it is, then I guess it only doubly reinforces teamwork with swords.

But trust me guys, as long as your sheild isn't a 3x5, you'll have trouble capturing it as a flag if your team doesn't cover you a little.

This was indeed discussed several times, as Meiser conceeded.

For example, from two years ago, a discussion on the matter of H2H.

And here's a guy who actually incorporated H2H into his Nerfing, putting a bayonet on his BBB.


Read the opinions and responses, then draw your conclusions. Basically, if your group allows it and you get a rush doing it, then go for it. But the consensus seems to show that most of us just Nerf.

And with that said, and Meiser's vow to do a search next time, I honor his wishes and put this puppy to sleep.
