I just got my magstike at walmart today and I was the reading the directions and it says on the caution label:

caution:Do not aim at eyes or face.
Do not look directly at the sun.
Use only darts designed for this product.
Do not modify darts or dart blasters.
Always wear VISION GEAR eyeware provided.

I never follow the caution anyway, but why does it say don't look at the sun?

The glasses that come with the set aren't very strong, so looknig at the sun with them is probably similar to looking at the sun with out any eye wear at all. Basically its an eye wear issue.

Yea, if you ever go and buy any pair of sunglasses, it says "Do not look directly at sun." Welcome to America.

Why is this in modifications? Anyways, it says on the box that it blocks 99.9% of UVA and UVB rays. I was under the impression those rays came from the sun, so it can't be like looking at the sun without glasses. I think it just slows the time that it takes to damage your eyes from directly looking at the sun.

What retard would look/stare at the sun anyway?
We should stop calling out/making fun of/pissing GC off. He's actually contributed and is available for trade. He's a better than average member no doubt. Got your back Cole.

The difference is this:

It says it blocks UVA and UVB rays. So you're fine from the rays the sun produces.

But looking directly at the sun puts all the photons into your eyes (not just the rays). Your eyes actually see the light (and anybody with a brain knows there's a LOT of light up there), and if you do it too often you'll go blind.

Does that explain it comprehensibly?

When you really think about it, this forum is still pretty darn tootin' good. It's like any family; we have a mix of brains, 'tards, jocks, geeks, hos, burners, waistoids, dickheads.

FH, did you just pull out the particle/wave theory for this? I'm pretty sure that rays are just the general word we use for light, um, goings-on. Photons and waves stay together as far as I know. I think it's a bit simpler than that anyway. UVA and UVB are both UV. Visible light is (by definition) NOT UV. The sun puts out a lot of visible light, as well as UV. Tinting against UV doesn't obscure vision, because the light that it's blocking isn't visible. Tinting out visible light requires blocking out the light that allows you to see. So, unless the glasses are opaque (TACTICAL DISADVANTAGE OMG) or very visibly dark-tinted, there's going to be a lot of visible light getting through there. If you look at the sun, the glasses won't protect your eyes.

Haha, no, I actually just kinda pulled it out of my head... which is why I'm surprised people think I'm smart now. I'm glad you could correct me, db. You're right about everything you said.

I really didn't know how to explain it, as it is kind of hard to explain. To try again (just rephrasing what db said), it's like the heat of the sun. Down here, we get 100-105 degrees in the middle of the summer. But we all know the sun is... well I don't know exactly how hot it is, but just to throw out a number... a million degrees. What can protect us down here (A/C anyone?) can't protect us up there.

It's the same with the light it produces. Down here, we get enough photons so we can see well. Sunglasses aren't even made to block that out entirely; they aren't a solid color... they are made to dim it. Now, the sun gives off enough photons to light itself, however many planets we now have, as well as billions of cubic feet of space. That's why sunglasses protect us down here normally, but not when you look at something as bright as the sun.

Well, you beat me. Excellent explanation.

Basically, the warning label is there, just like any other warning label, to keep idiots from blaming the company for what they do.
