im doing my first homemade and its still in the planing phases.i was wondering you could give me advice on the breech barrel design and if you could make a gravity fed clip. im planing on just having the plunger as the firing system and not having a trigger to simplyf things for me.

I wanted to know if you could make a gravity fed clip for the breech barrel

Yea, do this breach and then put a mag on top of the hole. There's your grav-feed breach. I've done it before with brass and 1/2" PVC instead of 1" and 1/2," and it worked great.

Make a trigger. Trust me. You'll be happy you did. And I hope to the Nerf Gods that when you say "just having the plunger as the firing system," you're still going to have a pressure chamber... because unless you're using bungee cords, good luck getting more than ten feet.

Oh, you mean a pump gun? If you're new to building guns, you may want to consider just reducing the tank on a cheap squirt gun. Otherwise, go buy one of those cheap ball pumps and then use a hose handle as your valve, or a solenoid if you want.

I'm not saying you don't know what you're doing, I'm just saying that building functional guns is harder than you think, so start basic and work your way up. Plus, in the end, the guy with the most basic gun usually wins anyways. Less things to break.

Anyway how can i make a trigger for the plunger system when there would be nothing to attach the trigger to the spring to the plunger. I was gonna use the nf plunger but my style so i could get better distances.

That will work also but where i live there are only 2 hard ware stores and a single wal-mart.

I dont care if you use constructive critisicms because i need all the help i can get

Not exactly sure what you mean here. You really don't want your trigger assembly to be connected to your spring at all. Really, a trigger is just something that halts forward progress of the plunger, which you can then pull away quickly. The spring also isn't really attached to anything, just confined so all of its energy moves in one direction.

Here's what im planning on using so far on my gun
3-6 inches of 1/2" pvc

5-6 inches of 1" pvc

5-6 inches of foam tube to create a seal for the breech barrel i intend on doing.

After thte barrel is assembled i plan on using a 1" circle of pvc or worst comes to worst an end cap.

Then use a steel or other metal rod attached to a small pvc shell or some other material. With o-ring attached of course to create a better seal.

The spring strong enough for power but not to strong so my gun falls apart.

The gravity fed clip will be made of pvc and balsa spacers ( got the idea from the FAR magazine)

Thats all i have planned so far im still working things out

Well I'm not usre that I understand your plunger system, but I'm pretty sure that it won't work.
I'd use this for your plunger. It's strong, light and very effective. It's what ompa uses and is based off of what Boltsniper uses.

I know what im gonna do for the gun! Im using the design for the nf and same catch on the plunger rod. Then ill use a spring attached to the catch release through a spring attached to the trigger to release the catch shooting the dart.

Y'know, with all that you're trying to figure out and hypothesize, with what seems to be nary a clue as to how to make a homemade Nerf shooter, don't you want to perhaps try Carbon's SNAP-1 blaster for starters?

It sounds almost what you have in mind, minus the clip / magazine load system.

And ACTUALLY TRY IT BEFORE YOU POST ANYMORE ABOUT THIS. We get quite a few posts and threads about people who's "gonna" make something, do something, try something...of course, they don't do a thing...

...then when we call them on it, they backpeddle and say they were busy, can't come to the board, etc. I still am waiting on a member who bet me that he could make a winged dart that could fit in a Nerf sized barrel, for better performance than a stock or stefan dart. I put up a modded NiteFinder against his posting privileges.

I haven't heard from him in awhile.

I'm gonna start getting cranky again if we see more pipe dreams and less output for "Homemades".

Think about doing a SNAP first. I have a half-done F.A.R., but my SNAP looks way more complete. And it's easier than it looks to build.

Yes. And he, not being mean either, gave you that advice.

Start small. It just can't be said enough.
