What's ypur favorite comic you've read and what's ypur favorite type of comic style for example western, horror, and fantasy.

7. Batman (I for one no affence hate that steriod loving invinsable Superman)

Comics are you serious. Have you ever seen spiderman the movie, t-shirt, video game, comic, or even a friken sketch of a guy in a cape or a costume?

Hmm...superhero comics, I've never read one. But I do have two comic books that my dad got for free in the mail called "Cosmo the Cosmic Cat." They're about a cat with an M on his forehead who plays different roles like "Austin Purrers" and "Purrlock Holmes" and fights crime. Kind of lame, but the puns can be kind of entertaining at times in how stupid they are.

Batman, Nightwing, Batman Beyond (I still dont understand why they discontinued the TV series), And Spiderman because other than the fact that he is part spider he seems like a real person: he isnt a billionaire, he doesn't have unlimited resources, and he he struggles with day to day problems. But overall I like Nightwing and his story the best.

Wow...It's about time someone makes a Topic about this. Comic books are something I hold near to my heart.

Now, the only on-going comic I read regulary is Batman. And now that they've found a new art team in Morrison and Kubert, I think it's only gonna get better, although Bats is supposedly going to start taking a lighter tone as a comic overall.
Other than Batman, I'm big on One Shots and Mini-series. Team Zero was a favorite, and the original 89 page Countdown to Infinite Crisis One-Shot is one of the best written comics of recent years.

Batman I am real regular with, I read Detective Comics often as well as its various offspring, to me as a kid, I liked batman more than superman, just because he was dealing with his inner demons and was more of a complex character to me, while I'm on Batman, did anyone check out Batman All Stars?

Frank Miller has gone off of his fuckin' rocker, not to show disrespect to his work in DKR or Sin City (which I love for its Noir feel and I loved the movie, thought it was the best movie I've seen in two years) but I mean, geez, how many times does he mention that Robin is "age 12" in the first issue alone?

Yeah Enigma, I like Morrison, and Kubert, but I don't like the lighter tone, I feel like the Batman that was the most on target as a character was Legends of the Dark Knight and Return of the Dark Knight.

And anyone who says comics is for kids is just ignorant, The Watchmen, The Sandman series, V for Vendetta are all highly sophisticated works of literature that should not be looked down upon just for being done in a comic book form.

I mean, The Watchmen won the Hugo Award, and the stuffy boarheaded 'conissoures' hated that so much, that a comic could get the Hugo, that they fixed it so it could never happen again.

Besides Batman, I read a lot of Dark Horse stuff, mostly their Terminator series, and a lot of The Tick, some spiderman, The Doom Patrol, Capt. America, American Flagg, The Question, mostly a little bit of everything.

So yeah, there's my two bits for what its worth.

I read graphic novels and am currently in the process of formatting and finishing a full sized graphic novel of my own. When finished, it will be submitted to publishers accordingly. I'll let you all know more information if/when it is released.

In terms of favorites, Kingdom Come, Dark Knight Returns and Watchmen are some of my favorites. I've been reading Sandman (Volume 1) recently and reread Year One just this week. Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth is another favorite.

The comic collections and graphic novels involving more mature and adult content are some of the most satisfying fiction reads around. While Spider-Man is cool, I don't think I've ever read a well written comic with him in it.

-The Walking Dead
-V for Vendetta (I finished it right before I heard the movie came out. Movie was different from what I saw from the comic. I thought the comic was a lot darker, probably because of the art style).

-We 3 (short one. It was only one book. I liked it, still)

-Ultimate "something"...all I remember is that Samuel L. Jackson was Nick Fury, which instantly made it AWESOME.

EDIT: HOW CAN I FORGET!?!?!

-Transmetropolitan. Great read. Took me about 2 weeks to finish it though. The comic is so satirical, I love it.

Definitely. I don't really read comic books much, but I count some graphic novels in my list of favorite books...Dark Knight Returns, The Crow, The Watchmen... And they don't even have to be fiction. Art Spiegelman's Maus books and Scott McCloud's Understanding Comics are both great.

It's not all serious stuff, though...I gotta put a vote in for The Tick, Too Much Coffee Man, and Scud.

I currently only read Fantastic Four and Dare Devil, but I used to be a pretty big collector. I have most of Silver Surfer's first series and a lot of Dare Devil comics from the 60's.

One thing about Batman. Although Batman is alot cooler and more awesome than Superman, he's not really a super hero. He's a hero wearing a costume. What's super about him? I don't count super rich as a super power. Hero yes, super hero... not so much.

True, Batman uses his money to get himself some of his crimefighting abilities, but the rest comes from his physical training, intelligence, and determination. It's what makes Batman a much more deep character, in that he's truly human, with everything that implies. Also, since there's nothing about Batman that he hasn't accomplished himself - no radioactive spider bites or extrasolar birthplaces - he feels more real, like it's something that could actually happen...at least, as much as anything from a comic book ever could.

Batman has two superpowers. He is rich. And he is moody.

Actually, the strength of the Batman character, and what makes him a superhero, is his motivation to become more than a man, and ultimately an icon of horrifying vigilantism. While he is not as black and white a character as Superman, or other legitimate SUPER-heroes... he is at the same time a deeper character for his motivation and his cause.

Batman is perhaps more a super-hero than any other, due to the fact that he is a super MAN, not a SUPER man.

[[Random note: I took a Comic Books course this past semester and wrote a literature thesis on how the Batman stories and themes parallel the classic cowboy genre. Neat stuff.]]
