Sorry.
You should remove ALL of the air restrictors.
I really don't mean any offense by my first sentence, it was just that it goes against the basics of nerf modding. You want the restrictors to cease all function, not function incorrectly.

The air restrictor fills the base of the peg, preventing the plunger from snapping forward at high velocity with no resistance, which is actually a nice feature. Once done modding, try not to dry-fire your weapon.
When the dart is pushed back, the restrictor goes back as well, allowing air to reach the rear of the dart. However, it still inhibits air flow greatly.
Therefore, it's necessary to remove both the springs AND the restrictor, then hammer out the pegs. If you simply remove the springs, the restrictors will rest against the rear of the gun, preventing nearly any air flow. Another mod that you can do (but I think you'd need the springs) is to take a flathead screwdriver and hammer out the pegs THROUGH the air restrictor, creating a large hole and a lot of air flow. Honestly, my range testing shows that it's at least as good as a total restrictor removal, which I think has something to do with a smaller area and higher pressure air.

Anyhow, I don't know if you even HAVE to remove that screw. I never opened my turret. I'd honestly suggest what I did to my Firefly - it's at least as effective as removing the restrictors entirely, and really, really easy. It also works in the Maverick.
Anyhow, you must have done something wrong. Perhaps your guns are leaking air somewhere, but range should only improve with restrictor removal, SG. I got significant improvements removing the restriction in the Scout did you get rid of the O-ring by accident?

Then how in the WORLD did you get the springs out? Seriously, how did you do that?
He probably removed them through the little hole by yanking them out.

The turret is really stuck together, you need to slowly pry the bottom away from the top. I used a flathead screwdriver between the white and clear parts. After I took out all the screws and other parts.

There's a little spring on the end of the plunger tube that pushes the nozzle-like thing against the turret. Make sure you didn't lose that.

I will check to see.
There was a screw holding the turret together so i couldnt take it apart
