I'am going to be buying either a sony psp or a xbox 360 soon. I'm going into my first year of high school and I will be playing sports all year, meaning I will be really busy with sports, school, and family so the reason I made this topic is. Which system should I buy the PSP or the Xbox 360. Which one will fit in to my scheldue more?

Umm...

Pick whatever fits your schedule more. The problem is that according to you your schedule is "playing sports lots", which doesn't really help all that much. Now, I'm not expecting you to put your entire life schedule on the internet, but we can't really help you much with that information.

Is it really worth even shelling out a few hun for somthing that you might not use to often because you will be so busy with sports? Or would it be better to spend that money on sports equipment because you will spend so much time doing those things.

I'm not saying don't get a console, because I don't know enough about your situation. I'm just saying things that you may not have thought about.

Think about it.

We ll X box 360 is more expensive. PSP is great for portability. If you want something hand held get the PSP. My neighbos have 2 PSPs and I really don't think they are good. They are good for hand held but they don't come close to matching X-BOX. 360 is good. But I hear from lots of people its only a tad better than Z BOX. If I were you I would buy the original XbOX or X bOx 360.

I'm in agreement with Lukeinator.

I don't know what the other admins' position on such a question as this pertains, but here's my view...

* You're going into your first year of high school, and you're going to buy an item that goes for about 400 bucks or so. As a leisure item. A "non-essential", if you will (you can survive without it, unlike food, decent clothes, and personal hygeine items. I'm assuming you don't pay rent or have a vehicle, so mom and dad take care of that).

* If your schedule is as busy as you say it's going to be, you have no business buying something that I know, that everyone knows, will consume a whole bunch of free time that you claim you don't have. Why not discipline yourself and go without it. You won't have it contending for your time away from sports and homework, and you'll have an extra 400 smackers for Nerf, impressing girls, etc.

* I think too many young people spend way too much time and money on video games. Kind of twists their perception of reality. We have a young man, right at this minute, who's in our infirmary because he decided to skateboard downhill without protective equipment. Kind of a "Tony Hawk" kind of thing. I don't know about the video game, but I know that reality bites. Hard.

Spend more time and money on stuff that's of this world. You'll be a happier person for it.

You asked for opinions, and you got an old fogey's one.

You could always buy a DS, the superior gaming system. :D Both are over rated systems. But if music and movies are your thing, get a PSP.

I'm in agreement with Piney here. Since my Xbox & old laptop got stolen last December, I had nothing to do. I was literally an asian guy without technology. If you don't get it, I "need" technology/development tools. Until I got a new laptop, I was spending my time upgrading my arsenal up to todays "standard". You really don't need a brand spankin' new state-of-the-art system. Go to a video game retailer, get an playstation (original/one), Dreamcast, or even a SNES (Super Nintendo) because they were all great systems that pioneered modern gaming. Everyone want super horsepower, great graphics, and 700000.1 (exagerated) surround sound, but what today's generation of gamers need is a blast from the bad-ass past. Seriously, if you don't believe you an old system is right for you, go download an emulator and some roms.

PSP's are really awesome. My friend has one, and it's great all around. If you have the cash for disk space for it, you can put a lot of media on it, along with being able to play some really awesome games, like Infected and GripShift. AND you can put emulators on it. This is just too cool.

However, do listen to Piney, for therein lies the other side of the argument. If you think that you aren't gonna be able to resist playing it, and end up doing worse in school and other things, don't get it. Video games really should come after Sports, School, etc., because these are the really important things. People can get the wrong impression of you, even if you honestly care about the activity that you're doing.

It's your life.

I'd say don't get the newest systems, especially if you don't have the time, as everyone mentioned. I would go with a PS2, or, *gasp* an original playstation (as someone mentioned)! The original had awesome games including but not limited to Final Fantasy Tactics, Frogger, and Tomb Raider.

360 easy. 360 has a far better game lineup and upcoming software applications that are amazing. If I was going to buy a handheld it would be the DS.

Having a 360 I can tell you right now just to wait a while if you have your heart set on getting one. There are very few games really worth getting right now that don't work for the original (cough Halo cough). I, personally, don't like PSP at all because its essentially a media playern and not really a gaming system. The DS is great for gaming but has virtually no media capacity.

In my opinion just go with an original Xbox (if you don't have one) and a DS. You probably could get both of those and at least 6-7 games with the 400+tax you would be paying on a 360.

Agreed with all of the above points. Don't get it if you feel you'll get addicted.

But if you are considering getting a PSP, I'd recommend you consider the GP2X (http://gp2x.co.uk/)

It has better support for emulators and can run a lot of free computer games and applications because it's based entirely on the Linux Kernel.

Plus, it's all Open Source so you can develop your own games and don't have to spend money on software.

I'm not usually one to like handhelds, but that thing looks amazing, better than a PSP. I'm considering getting one, but do they only sell in the UK? And also, I'd have to get a conversion from that price to USD... so maybe not. I like the function of being able to play old games and I do have a thing for Linux. It's better than Windows.
That thing amazes me.

EDIT: That thing looks a bit too expensive for my tastes, seeing as I already have a nice mp3 player with video, but if I was to get a new system, it'd be that.

Go with psp. I have one and its great for a school student ( Im a sophmore when school strats back ) It has a built in mp3, plays movies, and games has wifi and has a feature where you just push a button and it hibernates so it works great for in the hurry gamming. It charges in 30 min. and has a 3 hr battery life give or take. I also have a ds and it has a similar hibernation feature. In my oppinion if you dont want the music get a ds b/c you save a lot and it has many games and can play gameboy advance games. It has wifi and is great. ^_^
