I was wondering if any of you have ever tried using and airsoft spring in a pistol. Proabably a night finder.

thanks

You could use a Nerf spring in Airsoft, but not the other way around. It's because of the size of what you are shooting. BBs need a very small barrel, so less volume is needed and thus a smaller spring is neccesary. But if you put a Nerf spring in it, then you get Nerf volume/speed when less is required and that's when things start to happen.

I could explain everything the other way around but I think you get the point and I have to finish studying for finals... B)

Thanks for the help. I was also wondering if it is possible to modify a nerf pistol, sy a maverick to shoot bb's with excessive force? I was hopeing i could mod mine to should three bb's per barrel resulting in a 18 highly unefficent "clip". But hey its a start.

Yes, it's possible to shoot BBs with a Nerf gun. However, it's impossible to shoot BBs with excessive force from a Nerf gun. Airsoft is spring (or gas) powered. Nerf is air powered. You could try to make smaller barrels in the cylinder to fit airsoft bbs, but it wouldn't work very well.

If you go to your hardware store and buy this:

http://www.lowes.com...P23973&pad=true

(enter your zip code, it will show up)

You can use any nerf gun to shoot airsoft pellets. They fit perfectly into this tubing. They're not very accurate, though, and even my little Tanfoglio could outshoot a modified nite-finder any day, both in ROF, distance, and accuracy.

Shotguns for the win!

Any other questions, you can PM me... since this is a Nerf forum.

EDIT: While I was typing, Yogurt posted... Airsoft is actually just a scaled down version of a nerf plunger/tube, as far as I know. It's not like the spring hits the airsoft round: a plunger compresses air behind the round and the resultant force causes it to travel down the barrel. Of course, I may be wrong. Does anybody here know for sure?

Airsoft is spring (or gas) powered. Nerf is air powered.

Aparently you dont know anything about airsoft. Airsoft and NERF are both air powered. The spring doesnt even touch the bb in an airsoft gun. Inside, the spring pushes a piston that has a head on it that is almost exactly like what is in the NF ( screw on disk with an O-ring ). The air is then forced into a smaller air nozzle to increase and focus the air into the barrel ( Kind of like a water gun ).

You can rig up barrels to get NERF blasters to fire BBs. You can not swap the springs between them as airsoft springs arent designed to push large plunger tubes and NERF springs are much too large and heavy a gauge to work in an airsoft gun. Both weapons are perfect in their designs and do NOT need to be hybred.

Not necessarily... a spring from a submachine gun like an MP5SD3 would work perfectly in a spring pistol and most likely give the gun a significant increase in power, as the airsoft springs I have handled similar in size to springs from nerf guns have been much stronger, probably due to the fact that a $35+ airsoft gun has better quality parts than a 10$ nerf gun.

Exactly my sentiments. Well, they do not need to be "hybridized".

FYI, NinjZ is a veteran Nerfer AND experienced airsofter. Unlike me, of which I am an airsoft opposer, for the record.

If you want to experiment, it's your prerogative, but it's pretty obvious that the majority of the current users of the NerfHaven forum, keep NERF as it is, and airsoft where it is also. Separate. Enjoyed for each hobbies' uniqueness.

I won't even quote what some Nerf veterans might say, because I avoid using that kind of language.

Have fun experimenting...if that's actually what you intend to do.

Actually, a $10 NERF blaster is infinately better in quality than a $35 POS airsoft gun. Keep in mind, when I refer to airsoft parts, unless specificly stated, I am refering to REAL, QUALITY, airsoft parts. Not parts from crappy airsoft springers. Internal parts of crappy airsoft guns will vary so naming a type of gun means nothing.

If we use quality springs in a pistol as you stated, the spring would need to be clipped down some as they are actually quite long compared to a NERF pistols spring. In doing so, you reduce the power drasticly. I can prove this because a lot of times, people want a certain FPS out of their AEGs. Companies dont make that varied of a change in FPS between their springs. Because of this, people will custom clip their springs down small incraments at a time untill the FPS has been reduced to the power they want. You can really drasticly reduce the FPS a spring puts out by clipping just a small amount off.

Another thing you kids dont realise is that small, light weight plastic bbs are a much different projectile than a much larger and metal weighted stefan is. As such, both weapons are made to work differently.

Trust me when I say that springs can not be interchanged practicly.

Yes, you're correct about the fact the most AEG springs are typically long and skinny, therefore making them almost useless in nerf blasters, but what I was getting at in my previous post was the fact that some airsoft guns like smg's for example, have shorter and wider springs due to the compact nature of the gun which could possible make the spring usable for nerf applications. Although most airsoft springs would be unusable, I'm just informing Butt that contradictory to what others are saying, some (although possibly few) springs could have feasible applications in certain nerf guns.
