We have limited bandwidth and we'd rather use it for content. Nuff said. You can argue this point all you like, but ultimately we don't rely on anyone except ourselves to pay the rent here, so we will generally do things our way.

What if the image was on your own webspace? That shouldn't create a problem for NH's bandwidth.

Like 1337 and the poorly constructed language most forum users vehemently swear is still "english," images in signatures are extraneous distractions from the information of a post. I liken them to banner ads.

Look, we are NOT allowing images in your signatures. I'm sorry...no, no I'm not. Fuck you, no sigages.

Did you guy just turn off board code in the signatures to accomplish this, or did you actually hack the perl to not all the tags in the signature?

It seems like you just turned off the board code...

I'll be honest, that's not my department and I have no fucking clue. However, I do know that if it was my department you'd know if I had hacked the code, because I would have put a stop on some of these more faggy sigs too. <cough cough>

I'm just curious, because I use ikonboard on F-125, which is a variant of invisionboard, the software you guys use. And I regularly hack my board to do things it wasn't designed to do...

I might even be able to help you guys, if you so require.

Lets see, heres how you find out.

Go here:

Admin Control Panel >> Options/Settings >> Member Options >>

Look for this line "Allow iB CODE in signatures? *"

Is it set to "Yes" or "No" ?

Assuming that part of Invision board is the same is iKonBoard...

It's set to "No".

Thanks for the offer but here's the backstory:

People put images in their sig.

Cxwq removes images from sigs, makes it clear that they won't be tolerated in the future.

Everything is nice for awhile.

People put images in their sigs.

Cxwq wonders why the fuck people are so determined to make him fix the goddamned PHP.

Cxwq turns off IBF code since he isn't in a PHP-hacking oral gratification kind of mood.

So here we are.

When I move us over to the new version of IBF and start working on a rewrite, that will be one of the first things I change. Until then, there will be no code in sigs. Anyone who doesn't like it can talk to the LCM or Langley cause the code worked fine until they decided to put more fucking images in.

When you do decide to edit the code I suggest the simple str_replace command...

$sig = str_replace("[img]", "", "$sig");
$sig = str_replace("[/img]", "", "$sig");

$sig = str_replace("[IMG]", "", "$sig");
$sig = str_replace("[/IMG]", "", "$sig");

If used it to great success even when editing hundreds of instances of a php variable for my custom PHP Content generation hack for ikonboard which makes websites out of the posts in specific forums...

I'd think that wildcards could be employed to more intuitively remove the URL between the tags as well. That said, PHP is my 13th language and I'm not quite up to speed on it yet so I don't know if that's excessively difficult in this case. I'm sure I'll find out in a week or two when I get around to playing with it.

Once, like eight years ago I tried to learn qBasic, but it was too hard so I stopped.

Oh, and I like know HTML. Sort of. You know, how to put text on the internet, and make links and stuff. Yea. Tables still confuse me.

Programming is stupid.

Poor, bitter, jealous Spoon.

I know HTML, some Java, a little Qbasic.... It's really sad when you compare it to the twelve-year-olds breaking out beautiful websites and complex programs... Behind in the times.

Yah, you could probable use...

...but I've never needed to try something like that in PHP.

I suggest http://www.php.net and the Visual Quick Start: PHP, and Visual Quick Pro: PHP, PHP and MySQL books from PeachPit Press, along with the PHP Pocket Reference from O'Reilly
