One of my clan mambers carries a Manta Ray in his left hand, and used to carry a Quad-barreled Airtech 2000 in his right. Pumping the Airtech 2000 could (as I'm sure you can imagine) be a bit of a pain because the shell of the manta Ray would get in the way as he tried to grip the pump of the Airtech 2000 while still holding on to the manta Ray.

In the heat of battle, such issues can cost you a lot more than just time and convenience.

So I made a Quad-barreled Airtech 2000 with a pump in a completely different place, with no shell in the way.

Or at least, that's BASICALLY what it is...

Inspired partly by my SplitTech 2000 (the other part simply by the need presented by my clan member).

Enjoy!

It gets ranges around 90-95' flat and doesn't get in the way of the shell at all. He can put the ball of the pump on his left palm, hook his left thumb over the ball, and proceed to pump the gun. The two guns never have to touch, problem solved.

And (if I may say so myself) it looks pretty cool... <_<

So, you basically create mods that fit the needs of your teammates. It makes loads of sense, why deal with problems when you can invent very suitable solutions?

I guess they could call you the team leader/weaponsmith?

It's a very neat mod, by the way. How is the accuracy?

You know, I just had an idea for you. I'm not sure if this would be convenient (as I -just- thought of it), but it seems it would.

Rather then having to hook your thumb over the pump to pull it back out, why not just use a compression spring? Then, you could push it against anything (a palm, a hip, a leg... a couter... a tree...) without having to be there to pull it back out. And it wouldn't really decrease the performance of the gun, either. The only problem is you'd have to live with it out all the time.

I guess another problem (for the SSII at least) would be have a spring on the outside. So I guess it would work better for a gun such as an At3k, where it could be internal... but it still might be interesting to try.

The spring is an interesting idea, but how reliable it would be is questionable, and the spring would keep the pump from closing completely, so...

How is the accuracy?

Hasn't changed a bit. It's got a slightly diminished range, but hey, it's got four shots instead of 1 now... :D

No complaints!

How would it not be reliable? As long as you had/made an adequate platform for either side, I see now problems.

As for the pump not closing completely, just start the spring behind the close.

Nice mod. But I still don't understand how it improves ROF but whatever.

Compare a singled 2k to a quadded 2k. Mod the guns yourself, and see which one you can fire four shots with faster.

As for the spring, it may work on paper, but the spring could potentially make the gun uncomfortable to hold, and pumping would be more difficult as well, since it'd be harder still to push the pump into the handle due to the resistance of the air plus the added resistance of a spring.

It's a neat idea and all, but normal pumping isn't any easier or more difficult than pumping would be with a spring, and the problem that was solved by the mod on this gun has already been solved, so there's really no need for further improvements. Thanks for the input, though.

I made an addition to the original mod about 2 hours ago, before I walked into an oven (went outside and mowed my lawn. It's about 85 degrees right now, but moving around a lot, in direct sinlight, for about 2 hours feels more like 98 or so...) so here's the completed gun now. All I did was add 1/2 a 3/4" PVC endcap to it to completely secure the turret so it can't move at all (it was able to bend a little bit before). Makes it look a bit cleaner, and somewhat more like the SplitTech's ugly-ass cousin...
