Hey everyone! I was just watching the simpsons and came across this "fox9 investigation" commercial about nerf in the Minnesota area. Supposedly they interviewed a bunch of kids who play the sport. From the look of it they were all using stock gun's and they called it "nerf assassin's." The program itself i'm pretty sure looks at the safety concern's. Its scheduled to be on at 9pm tommorrow (monday). Anyone else hear about this or was possibly involved?

Channel (yea, Fox 9, but that doesn't really mean anything...)? 9:00 Central? Sounds like something I may have to watch...

I think this may be just a local minnesota thing. So if you live in minnesota the channel is 9 (UHF/VHF/DISHNETWORK) and its at 9pm. (central time) The site usually has the story in print as well, so ill give a link once available. Here's a link to the general site: The site

Hey if someone wants to record it and put it up on youtube or some other site, that'd be great.

How old were these kids? And why do they insist on calling themselves "Nerf Assassins?"

I'd say around 14-15 years old. The preview was only about 30 seconds long though so watch and find out.

Boy I wish I lived south of here. It'd be pretty interesting to see. Was the news station making a complaint about it, or were there concerns? Or was it just an entertaining story. That'd be cool to see.

warx - The idea behind so many of these "assassin games" is to carry out everyday life, but with the "danger" of being eliminated from the match by stealth attacks throughout the day. I, personally, have never played one of these games. I'd be interested in giving it a try though.

Well guys if you would recall, a couple of months ago I told you all about this, and yes were trying to get it taped, and then subsequently on the internet, so all of you can view and critique if we fucked up or not.

Alright'cha'll: just saw it, it wasn't that great.

The game they play is called "Assassins." It's basically like the squirt gun game you may have heard of: You can shoot anyone anywhere except at work and school. The object of the game is the be the last one standing. To demonstrate how it could happen anywhere, they had a camera mounted on some guns in grocery stores, a close followup (camera shot) of people walking into AMC (a movie theater company), so on and so fourth. They also had some random field shots that just looked like war (as opposed to the "Assassins" game), but oh well.

The catch was whether or not it was teaching kids the wrong lesson. All the kids and their parents said it was fun, yeay, I wanna do it, yata. Then they had a psychiatrist on who claims that it's "teaching them the wrong lessons --" but he changed his mind later with respect to the social aspect (kids claiming they've made a lot more friends and met people they never would have). Some of the kids -- in defense, I guess -- said: "Well, it's a lot better than playing video games, which are potentially worse...."

That's pretty much it. They just explained the game and interviewed people and except for one or two "sending the wrong message"-s, it all seemed pretty positive.

As for guns, I noticed a PTG Dart Tag Blaster, a custom painted BBB, and some other things. Other than mods, there was quite a variety of guns: PCs, LBBs, NFs & Mavericks... didn't see any secret shots :D. Mostly just larger guns, except for NFs. But they didn't talk about the guns, they just had shots of them while they were talking.

- - -

I didn't record it, but you didn't miss much.

*No, I didn't actually write down what they said. That's just as close as I can remember.*

-- DISCLAIMER: I'm NOT, of course, insulting the game they played when I say "It wasn't that great." I'm talking about the news coverage. --

EDIT: Since Ompa isn't finishing this off or anything, I'll at least fix it up a little...

Yea. Wow. My guess is it's like that in every state -- 100s that do it that we will never know about. Which is really too bad. But it is just amazing to think about. And ever since I've gotten into it, my sisters at college have been mentioning all their friends who're into it... and... well there's a lot of Nerfers out there...

Just imagine, there could be another FAR person (bolt...), another CAD user (Cpt. Slug)... who knows the guns they've built?

Anyways, that was sorta off topic, done now.

Ompa... I have nothing but this to do to you: :D

Wow, that is really somthing. I never knew somthing that big happened in the twin cities. I saw some modded guns, pretty cool. They devoted a good 10 minutes on the story and from what I saw it gave nerf some good publicity. Nerf is really taking off, can't wait to see what these new guns this fall will add to the sport. Oh and those "doctors" who claim to know about teen behavior and whatnot dont know anything, they're full of crap.

Thank you. I got people Interested after stumbling across this site about a year ago, and then those four guys in the interview orchestrated it. We taped it, and were working on getting it online. Basically people saw how much fun we had, and got excited. There was rivalry, backstabbery, and drama.

Will you be having this sort of game continuing next year? I'll be living in the Cities then, so I'd be happy to join the festivities for a bit.

Did you tape the news or you guys running around full of adrenaline and paranoia?
Either way I look forward to the tape and am really glad to hear about more of these games popping up all over the globe.

There will be a game or two of Assassins happening in the Mississauga area this spring/summer/fall. Anyone interested Pm me. I will create a thread as soon when I know what kind of style of game this will be. Teams, each assassin has only one target or every man for himself. It will be one of these three but that all depends on what the majority wants. Personally I love teams.

About nerf growing, it would be cool if we started writing stuff like "Nerf? www.nerfhaven.com" on dollar bills and such. Sort of like what people do with www.wheresgeorge.com

That shit makes me sick. Like we didnt have enough graffitti and advertisements across walls, billboards,Television, radio, street signs and much fucking more. Can we leave our very own currency graffitti and advertisement free. If you "tag" a $5 bill with Nerfhaven.com on it then you should die for the greater good of humanity.

EDIT: This may seem out of my character but I have little patience for these types of things.
