First off, this is an old version.

All the pictires I've seen show putting it in front of that notched part, but on mine I can't put it back together like that, because the pegs won't go into the holes in the s[img]ides of the case. I notice in pictures like this, that that the rear handle/trigger seems to be further back than in mine. The top screw on the support arm seems to be at the very edge of the case in that one, where in mine, it's about an inch further in. Getting it to the point shown there requires drawing it back as in compressing the spring. That doesn't seem right.

What am I doing wrong?

Well, I just put mine back together, so perhaps I can help you a little.

First off: make sure everything is snug. Yes, even the cap that goes over the end of the plunger casing.

Second, make sure everything fits into its respective grooves (IE, plunger casing cap between those two ridges). Use the picture you just posted to double check.

Third, don't push down on a desk when you screw everything shut. You need to have the plunger catches (the two pegs with springs, one on either side) sticking out, and pushing on the desk won't help. I had to hold mine in mid-air.

Put on the back shell, making sure the plunger catch is in correctly.

Put on the front plunger catch (by "back" and "front," I mean "side farthest from you" and "side closest to you," IE side with screws is prolly the front).

Now, this part is tricky. Not annoyingly tricky, but tricky. Put on the front shell, making sure to get the plunger catch through the hole. It's too far forward, right? There are three things you should do, in this order (I usually have to do mostly 1, some 2, and barely any 3):
1) Slide the plunger catch as far back as it will go, and the shell along with it.
2) Cock the gun just a little -- no more than an inch.
3) Push it shut.

And then screw it up. I can't say anymore descriptive than that. I can take pics, if ya want, but... uh... *gets back to writing english essay*
