Hi there,

I'm new to the nerf community. I've been playing nerf for almost ten years, but I've never really taken it seriously. The guns I had were unmodded, and all and all very lame. The only guns I had that were any good were the supertech series which were awesome, except you give them to your friends and crap happens. Needless to say one broke, and I'm having trouble making the stefans for the smaller model.

Anyway, I'm very disatisfied with the guns I have and haven't been able to find one of the new line airtech yet. So I spent hours today in the Home Depot with a small paper I wrote some diagrams and blueprints on.

First off, I'm pretty handy when it comes to concepts and I understand alot of the stuff I've been reading. What I'm missing are some of the holes left out. I'm currently working on what I hope will be an assult rifle that I can have tested and debute at apok this august. I have the basic design, now I need the part I don't understand.

I have the air tank down and pretty much done. The barrel and breach system are both done. Now I need a valve system. I've seen some of the concepts on Zero's site about pull valves and I can rig that thing up in a snap. I understand the concept the air and spring keep the valve closed and when it is opened it will quickly close when released. Got that, but my trouble is, how do you open it. Do you actually pull the valve? Do you rig up a trigger system? I'm confused.

What I have consider first was a ball valve. That was quickly thrown out. Second I wanted to use a garden hose much like Zero's cutlass. Then I moved to an actual blow gun for air compressors, but they have a clumsy design and would take alot of work to fit in. I plan on making prototypes that use all of the above systems, but for now I want to make a primary weapon I can use. So with that, I'm taking suggestions. What trigger release system have you all used. I'm new and have tried many different things, but I'd like to hear others tales before I decide on one to use. Thanks alot,

Talio.

Yea, go with the basic pull valve that zero designed. I made 2 guns with that and they work great.

Yeah I got that part, you didn't answer my question. How do you rig a trigger system to make the pull valve work? Or do you physically pull the pin. If so, I'm gonna have to pass, it will mess up my accuracy with a loser rifle.

Yeah, you pull the pin... It's really not as bad as you may think; You can get them to a trigger pull of a millimeter or so, and form the pin into whatever trigger shape you want. Friction forces are low (with the proper care), and trigger pull due to air pressure is zero. But I guess you want sort of a "transistor" valve, using a small input to release a large output. Like a Solenoid Sprinkler Valve?

You could make it pull like an autococker 3-way, if you have questions goto a local paintball shop and talk to the guy. I use 2 solenoid valves rigged with a 9V battery to each. then i have a micro switch that i can hook them both to, then the trigger is basically a small piece of plastic that for the trigger. For more info look at my nerfcocker thread in homemades. This is great for semi and regulating gas flow.
