I just realised mine would work with a parachute as well if the chute were secured to the guiding post in the middle. Even if the chute didn't open it would go off once it hit something.

So many things to think about...

Your's wouldn't need a parachute. It might hurt to get nailed by it, but I'll see what I can do as to building it. It doesn't appear to be too difficult to build...

I didn't see CS's post when I posted mine, since it took me a good 20 minutes to type since my sis needed reptile assistance.

I really like that idea. Seriously, this would do well for a 12 dart load. I'll start making it, oh, now?

Doesn't he want an airburst grenade, not an impact one?

Anyways, just get rid of the nose cone part and stick some string or wires going from the carboard sliding piece through slots, or holes for string, inside an open compartment in the back instead of the fins. Then just have a piece of brass/springsteel attached to the base of the compartment at one end, then bent up with a suction cup on the other end, and a parachute attached to the wires/string from the cardboard slider, and then when the suction cup releases(hopefully during flight) the spring steal will pop up, flinging the parachute out the back. The parachute will catch the air and slow down, pulling on the strings/wires atached to the sliding piece, which will be pulled back, letting the darts pop out in a wide spread and fall down on your opponents. As a bonus, the whole thing will slow down and fall gently as the parachute will still be attached to the casing, thereby increasing the safety.

Edit-Ouch, I missed three posts while I was typing. And CS beat me to the parachute on his design idea. Oh well.

Megot, I did want an airburst. In order to do that, a parachute-release would be needed.

You know.

What if you had two separate chambers, one facing forwards and the other backwards.

Both chambers attached to each other, with rubber banded stefans inside.

Put that in a PVC or Cardboard shell with a parachute.

The ones in the front and forward-facing chamber would not doubt go forward, and if your bands were strong enough, the ones in the rear chamber would fly out the back. Thus creating your two-way explosion.

Now we just have to get it to spin, so you have a rotating two-way.

GeneralPrimevil, if you want the CAD file I could send it to you.

I just realized the Cross-shaped piece for holding the rubber bands could be replaced with 4 polyester or wooden rods stuck into the foam pieces. The configuration I'm using would shoot the darts outwards. and you could load 4 darts per rubber band.

I just came up with an easier way to have the cardboard shell open that will also shorten and simplify the projectile a bit.

I am a complete noob at homeades. So what is PSI? I 've heard of it but never knew what it is. I know it is an amount of something but what is it an amount of? Co2 or just pumping air...? Thanks

PSI stands for Pounds per Square Inch. It measures how much extra matter is inside a given volume as compared with the normal amount of matter.

CS, I PMed you.

FH, I have no idea what you are talking about...

So does a titan or any air powered nerf gun contain PSI? Thanks GeneralPrim.

Here is my quick sketch of the greanade I am attempting to make.

My Nerf grenade

The bottom right and corner says" this can be shot or thrown"

Nerfer34, that really isn't a bad idea. I like how you chose to weight it so it would always land on the trigger.

Maybe you could just rubber band it and then have the trigger release the rubber bands. That way you wouldn't have to make a pump, too.

GPevil, I'll make a sketch for ya in a wee bit.

Thanks Flaming H. Can you or someone please explain this rubber band idea? it seems like a gret idea but I don't understand what the rubber bands will do....Propel the stefans??

Aye. The idea is to have the band stretched like a slingshot with stefans as the ammo. Cap opens, stefans can go forward.

That's my take on it, at least.

OK so rubber bands would propel stefans uwards?

EDIT- also what about a pin pull grenade? Like you pull a piece of plastic or "pin" and that releases the air or power to prople stefans..

Depending on how they're set up, it's definitely a possibility.

I know this sounds like a dumb idea but what about grenades that you lay before a battle? You could have a tank hooked up to a sprinkler valve and then have a bunch of barrels that point up. A sprinkler valve could have the leads hooked up to long wires so it could be remote trigered. The barrels could be filled with a lot of darts. When you release the valve lots of darts fly up and bombard the enemy with foam. :D

You mean a remotely detonated bomb?
Or something like a landmine, perhaps?

Not a bad idea, but of course they'd know to watch out for it.

And it's not a grenade.
(no offense, of course)

Here's the revised design. The outer shell is the only part tht moves and is weighted at the end of each guiding rod by a single lead BB.

CS, I still don't get how that works. The inertia of the casing pushed the cardboard forward, and then the stefans can fly out the hole where the cardboard was?

Yep. The cover is weighted so that when the grenade is decelerated (by a parachute or by running into something) it will resist and move forward releasing the stefans that are pushed against the rubber bands. You could stack really short darts pointing outwards against the rubber bands, or lay longer darts against the rubber bands parallel to the body of the dart. It wouldn't really matter which orientation the darts are being pushed in because they'll correct their orientation once they start moving.

Once the grenade runs into something or the chute causes it to stop abruptly it will shoot stefans out in all directions from the sides. The only issue I see is the potential for the friction of the darts against the cardboard making it difficult for the cardboard cover to move. Adding more weights to, or reducing the length of travel on the cover might fix that.
This thing would be really fun to throw too...

So, how many stefans do you think that thing could hold?

It would depend on their length. You could easily fit 48 really short stefans inside.

Here's an alternative configuration.

I like the alternative a little better. It would be harder to connect the nose cone to the cardboard door, but it would guarantee the door opens as long as you shot it hard enough.

48? How big is this thing, anyways? I just say three stripes for rubber bands and thought three rubber bands... and... yea...

Dimensions? And then... 48 stefans... you gunna need a big gun to fire it... :D
...
Sounds like fun. I may have to build one.

Should be around 6 inches long and 2 inches in diameter holding around 48 1-inch stefans
