okay ive been con sidering taking a few old bikes piling them together putting cardboard on the sides and having it go kart style then mounting a HUGE airtank on the back(like maybe a 5" wide air tank about 3 feet long with 2 of em) and having a mounted machine gun that im still building and possibly using this as a tank would this be cool?

-OR-
(cheaper easier version) :)

just mount a few guns on a modified mountain bike with controls near the shifter on the handle bar

does anyone think i should? if so which one?

my capabilities are definetly good enough to do this just need to know if i should i will post pics and writeup if I do make one

thx

Are you joking me?

When would this be manuverable enough in order to actually use it?

If you can get it to work, go ahead. I'd go with the go-cart style one.

Probably dead by now, or something.

Would this be interesting to build? Yes.

Would this be practical, or even allowed in a war? Most likely not.

The mountain bike idea is attainable, but a bike is not manuverable enough for combat and aiming would be so difficult that it would be hard to get a bead on someone.

The idea of a 4 wheeled vehicle holds more merit, as it is more stable to fire from, and you wouldn't need to maintain balance, like on a bicycle. However, it would be pretty tough to get the steering worked out, and again, this vehicle won't likely be very manuverable or fast enough to be useful.

Feasability aside, most people would not like someone using this vehicle in a war. It takes away most of the joy of running around and shooting people, when one team lumbers around in a slow-moving box. Also, the areas I nerf in generally do not have the large open and predominantly flat surfaces needed for vehicles to be an asset.

Basically, if you are building this to build it, like building a homemade that can shoot 200 feet, by all means, have fun and good luck.
But, if you are trying to turn this into a viable asset in your next war, odds are it won't work out so well.

now that I think about it you guys are right no where near the right mobility I would need to have success in a battle however if I built a few and had a tank war......... the possibilitys are endless

thanx for the feedback!

This sounds like one of those projects you do for the sake of them. No armor or anything, but a few mounted guns (it would be best if they turn with the front wheel) would be kinda fun. Not practical at all, but fun. It would be cool to mess around with, at least.

The best thing you could do is get a spare brake cable and make a mount for a RF20 or WF, which it can be removed from, using the brake cable to pull the trigger. Again, not practical, but I bet you would have a lot of fun spewing out darts from your bike. You could always take off the gun and use it normally too, so you wouldn't have to waste a nice gun on a somewhat useless project.

On a forum, I typically frown on this type of thing, but I know it's the kind of project I would love to build. Go for it, but realize that it's not really for nerf.

Well, it makes me want to build a cart, but that's about it. Especcially since I have bike parts out the ying-yang. Yeah, you could say that I ride bikes for a living, but I don't get any money for it, even though I am the four fastest rider in Western Michigan. That was based off my being the same speed as the second fastest...

So what would it involve? The rear end of an old mini-trailer and the front end of a bicyle? I think DB has a point here, make it just for the kicks...I'm not sure how to link the motion of, sey, pedals from a bike with the motion of the axle, although I could just cut some of the case for a small cog. I'd have to hack up the case anyway in order to get a solid rod in there. Hard to trun, but would be fun to ride around...

A couple of friends and I once hooked up old bike parts to a minivan-sized wooden frame, and it was pretty cool. We had a single 3/4" steel axle in the back with two sets of rear bike gears (with freewheel) so two people could pedal at once. The ends of the axle were turned down to bike-axle size and threaded for locknuts. There was another set of wheels in the back for support. The front had the front end of a bike for steering. The brakes...well, the brakes kinda sucked. They were a feeble attempt to use bike calipers intended to stop 100 pounds to stop, oh, 500-700 pounds. On top of that, they were shoddily made, and only the front wheel had brakes. That thing was pretty cool, though. Some fun times. We rode it in a parade once. We also got it going around 40 mph down a hill, which was pretty thrilling.

So, primevil, you could get a pretty nice 3-wheeler going without much work.
Use the rear gears from the bike on an axle to transfer the pedal turning to the rear wheels. You can just use bike wheels for the rear wheels. Pedal mounts are up to you, but they're not terribly difficult. We made them in about an hour, which includes total design time.

Whoa, this is sounding pretty fun. I should get going on one of these myself.

Yeah. Malekith, you got some people thinking now. Not about Nerf, though, but you got people thinking. Well, maybe about Nerf. I might be able to make one of these (lightly armored) by the time MidMI rolls around. Not for all of the war, but maybe a round or a match.

I'm tying to think of what I have for steel. I know I have unlimited 1" square tubing and 1-2" angle iron, but I wonder if I have any solid cylindrical steel stock...
Anyway, I guess I'd have to chop a bike right after the bottom bracket on the rear triangle. It would also have to be cut more towards the steerer tube on the top tube, keeping the down tube between the steerer tube and bottom bracket intact, maybe even reinforce it with angle iron. I'm probably gonna start this since I have nothing really better to do one Wednesdays. Especially since of the last three or four cannon/homemades that I've made, they kinda failed...Time to work on vehicles for the fun of it?

Ha...I might be getting a bike which has wheels made out of racing wheelchair rims. Those were custom made back in '88. Damn, that was before I was born! They're 13mm wide for tubeless tires which are only made by one manufacturer now, capable of going up to 250psi. That bike is wicked-fast, though, I mean like, I hit near 35 without the "m4d sh!11z" I have now. I wonder how fast I could take that after the BB and wheel bearings are polished and repacked...
Mmm, 67t big ring with 13t little cog...damn, I'm gonna have to go to the gym for that one! That's like running 5.5:1...dayum, I'll probably bend/break an axle. Gotta love TT/Tri bikes, eh? Any bikers out there? I'll try and get pics of it for ya. It wouldn't win a beauty contest, but it performs better than anthing I've ever seen that is store-bought. That is why custom bikes are always winning races. Actually, I've only seen one other TT/Tri bike which would be in the same league as this one, and that was a bike haning on a wall. What a shame...people retiring and whatnot.

I think DB and I kinda made this "Off-Topic"...
