I'm just curious to know who is amongst this year's fleet of nerfers heading to college/graduating from High School, etc. Tell me where you're headed, what you'll be doing, etc. Also, if you're already in college, fill us in on what will be going on next year (or if you're graduationg, then where you're headed/what you'll be doing after). After all, it is getting to be that time of year...

I'll be heading to Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego. I'm going there on a 3-grand/year scholarship from their music department (which is as high as their indicidual scholarships go without giving 1/2 or full ride).

I'll be majoring in music composition. I plan to go into the film industry, composing for major films, etc. I've already put together a number of scores; two for concert band, one of which was dedicated to the music department at the High School, and is now part of their archives. Another is scored for a full symphony orchestra (including percussion and choir) in 7/8 that I wrote for a friend's video game project he's working on (a medieval RPG-style game, as though there weren't enough of them already, lol.) It's the theme music for any battle sequences that would take place (sounds pretty medieval/gregorian chant-ish; pertty cool.)

I also slapped together a chart about two weeks ago for my high School Jazz band, which remains untitled. We have an annual Silent auction (April 28th, if any locals/YANO participants are interested, ) and we're going to be performing it. We always live-auction off a few items, and we'll be allowing the highest bidder to name the chart anything (within reason/appropriate, etc.) The winner will recieve a fresh copy of the score, plus all the parts, with their chosen Title at the top. Their name will be included at the bottom as the source of the Title. A second copy will be put in the High School's Music Library. Pretty cool...

So Spoon...once you hit it big in Hollywood, gimme a call, mmmkay?

That sounds awesome. I also hope to go into music although I've still got 1 year left of high school. I'm not sure whether I'd prefer composition or performance. I love performing but it's harder to find work that pays well. Writing music for other industries such as movies, videogames, etc., that are thriving is a good alternative.

I've just recently started composing seriously. Not for symphony/ concert bands although I've done some arrangements of songs for my schools jazz band. I'm more into composition using programs like FL Studio/ Reason, more along the lines of electronica/ house.

I'm currently looking around for good music schools early on in my college search. Any recommendations? I'm thinking of maybe U of M (in my hometown), Lawrence University in Wisconsin, Oberlin (not so much) and some others. How does Point Loma match up/ what special oppurtunities or programs does it have?

Wow, all these musical types hangin out in here... i whistled a song once and the world almost ended.

Yeah this summer I'm gonna be sailing around on the east coast learning about navigation and such for about 2 weeks at the end of may. Then I will be on naval cruise on some big old warship for the month of July. I requested to be stationed out of San Diego, so I just may be able to find some of you SoCal guys for a little war when we're in port? Besides Those things I get a few weeks at home, then I'm back to Navy again for next year, I'll start getting more into my major, Ocean Engineering- should be pretty cool. I'll also be playin ball again and hopefully wrestling too if I can pull it off.

Good luck to all of you that are looking for colleges, applying to colleges, or choosing colleges. That's a tough job, and a pretty big decision, but dont get too hung up on it, the right choice will come to you eventually. Keep your options open as long as possible, ya know.

I'm finally moving into a house near campus this summer, I think I'll leave the majority of my Nerf stuff at my parents' place in Minneapolis though.

I go to www.winona.edu a Minnesota State college. It's a really great, small college town 2 hours south on the Mississippi. Literally, it's so close to Wisconsin that when I go running I run the bridge to Wisconsin and back. And on the back side of campus, there are these beautiful bluffs... hiking and climbing is a blast. Winona's biggest programs are Teaching and Nursing (Mayo Clinic in Rochester is about 30-45 mins away). Most importantly, it's about a 30/70 ratio of guys to girls.

I'm sure you could count on part of my crew (we're not too far from San Diego) as well as part of Falcon's (they're some really dedicated Nerfers) would gladly try to meet-up with ya and get the foam out.


Anywho, I'm currently at Santa Ana Community College, Majoring In Mechanical Engineering. I plan on transfering to Cal Poly Pomona in a couple of years, but First I'm transfering to Riverside Community College, because The Commute to Orange County is kicking my ass.

For all of you who Bash going to 2-years first, Do Smaller class sizes, being taught By the Actual Instructor and Lower costs per class sound good to you? they did to me.

I'll be found at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Massive campus and huge population, but it'll have plenty of options for me.

Looking to either Political Science or Physical Therapy, even though they're entirely different. I'm a guy with too many interests.

Jangadance, I will be closer to you, so we can get a war going much easier. In fact, I have a friend that attends St. Mary's in Winona, so I could probably stay with him. I have a few buddies that are going to the U of M too, so they can get in on the action.

I just registered for classes today at Winona State University. I'll be going there next fall majoring in Composites Engineering. Jangadance, do you have fellow nerfers in Winona? What are you majoring in?

What kind of song is it? Style? Influence? Does it feature anyone in particular?

It's a definite classic swing era chart. Count Basie-esque. It's based off a 12-bar blues progression in Eb, and has a 12-bar improv solo section that goes 2x through for lead tenor sax (who happens to be Sasquatch), 2x for lead trumpet (in this case, myself), and 2x for piano (he doesn't nerf...what a shame.)

The melody also opens up at the head with a lead trumpet/tenor duet. Pretty nifty.

Anyway, enough about me.

Veggie, I swear, if you are on land in SD, we'll loan you WHATEVER you need to borrow; we HAVE to nerf. Fill us in when the dates draw near.

Jangadance, do you have fellow nerfers in Winona? What are you majoring in?

There are a few guys here who would be interested, but not many serious modders or aficionados. I know that about 30 guys on my floor bought old model Nite Finders ($4 at Fleet Farm, woot!) to play Assassins with, but I'm not sure what sort of "war" I could scrap together. My major is Communication Studies with a Music minor. The campus is top notch, best I've found in Minnesota. Saint Mary's is a great school; a bit expensive, but to be honest I was hoping eventually I would take some classes over there.

Anyways, any other questions you guys can feel free to IM or PM me. Keep me posted on Nerf activities in the area too.

I'm currently about 5 weeks away from finishing my sophomore year in Electrical Engineering. I expect to graduate in May 2008. I'm looking into doing my technical/design electives senior year in the areas of embedded systems, control systems, and sensors. Beyond my required classes, I'll be taking a lot of classes that I would consider interesting. Since my core area is completed two years early (thanks to AP credits), I plan on taking classes like materials and cryptography (just to name a few).

By the way, notice the post time and realize how early/late it is, however you want to look at it.

I think I'll be the most inactive member to relay plans...

I'm in the same boat as Shindig, with about 5 weeks or so of my sophomore year at UW Madison until sweet, sweet summer, when I get to make money and play shows in Milwaukee, Madison, Appleton, maybe Illinois and Iowa as well rockin the piano with my Bop Rock band called Ticket251.

Otherwise, I'm currently undeclared and running out of time, but I'm trying to get a major created for me that focuses on making music out of foam projectiles.

Actually, I'm thinking about graphic design. But, I'm pretty sure I could BS that above major into existence.

Speaking of art, I'm up at this early hour because I just stayed up all night working on an art video involving eggs being dropped upon me.

Oh duce, as far as Lawrence goes... they've got a great jazz program, and a wonderful "classical" program as well... but if you're more into the electronic side of musical performance/production, perhaps you might want to look at University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee? I've heard they have a great electro-acoustic sound department... because at somewhere like Lawrence or U of M, it's either going to be classical, or jazz (which is really classical with some jazz added in for spice), but all the sound production stuff (like recording, mastering, mixing, etc) you're going to have to learn on your own. But, Lawrence does have the Fred Sturm. Good man, he is. (Appleton is one of my home towns.)

OR, you could head over to UW Oshkosh, as they have a double major program: sound engineer AND a music major. Which means you're basically a god at audio, and pretty good at an instrument. It also means you worked your butt off. But music majors do that anyway, eh?

Well, I'm about a month away from finishing up my Sophomore year here at Virginia Commonwealth University, in their School of Communication Arts and Illustration. I'll be in this department until I graduate, in 2008.

Currently I'm taking a figure drawing course, a general design studio course, an art history course, and a gen. ed. English 200 course. Next year I'll be taking quite a few digital design courses and hopefully my first digital painting class, and for my junior and senior year I'll hopeuflly be taking a few game design courses (which is what I want to focus on anyhow).

This summer instead of taking one or two more courses like I had planned, I am going to take it off and work a part-time job and hopefully build up some funds to go to Armageddon again with some more East Coasters.

Lets see I started at UW Madison, graduated with a BA in Political Science, and left for Michigan State University-Detroit College of Law, which has since changed it's name to MSU College of Law. I'm in my last month of school and will graduate with my JD on May 14th. Then I take the MI Bar exam in July, the MPRE (ethics test for professionals) in August and hope to find a job lawyering before the end of summer.

I have already earned my associates and I am currently in my last semester of normal classes at George Mason University. I will be taking the summer off to search for job opportunities before attending my final semester abroad to finish either Italian or Japanese through the 202 level.
I will graduate in December with an associates in science, a bachelors degree in Communications/Public Relations with a minor in business.
I'm hoping to work in the marketing and product prototyping fields by next year.

I currently hold a BS in Aerospace engineering from Virginia Tech with minor in Electrial. I will finish up my Masters in Mechanical engineering from VCU this semester. I will defend my thesis in June and should be completely done in August. I am currently talking with Boeing, Northrop, and Honeywell about jobs but have not made in final decisions. I am debating a continuing for a PhD in mechanical, but I will probably choose to get some work experience first. If VCU had their way they would keep me here for the doctorate and hire me as part of the faculty. You may be calling me Dr. Boltsniper in a few years....

I've heard great stuff about Lawrence from my cousin, and also about Steven's Point from some good friends. Saint Mary's in Winona has a very good music production program, best one for a Minnesota college I believe. U of M is a good school, anyone who goes there and is ready for a big city rush will enjoy it... but as far as small state schools go, Winona is the best I've found and a great value.

I don't know what I want to do when I graduate, I still have rock star aspirations... great music by the way, Kirby. Hopefully I can catch you guys performing sometime.
