I just found this RAD 4.0 @ robottoys rather interesting and was wondering if anyone could vouch for it not being a piece of CR@P. The darts almost look like airjet micros.

CR@P? Fret not, this isn't NHQ.

Even if you use that in a war... Well, look at the price tag. That thing will get kicked around by the opposing force, and at that price, it makes a better rich kid's toy than it does a defensive soccer ball.

You could do better, for your application, with a motion sensor from Radio Shack and a Solenoid Sprinkler Valve. Or, if you're feeling cool, a laser pointer, a simple circuit with a photosensitive cell, and a Solenoid Valve (again). Or, if you're feeling cheap, a Solenoid Valve, and a simple momentary switch under a particle board plate, buried under a bit of sand or dirt in your backyard. Either way, better than a $140 voice command toy.

thats funny, that was pretty much my first impression of it!
I was just wondering if anyone had actually purchased it, and if they had found any real use for it. I don't see how they could... *Imagines the little robot thing skidding along the floor, plunking bits of foam down at peoples feet while having the batteries kicked out of it* good times... good, times...

My friend had one of those, a different version, maybe the first one. Anyway, yeah it was slow and loud and fragile, but it shot the darts pretty hard.

ok heres my first post YA (nhq and streetbeyblade have way too strict moderators)!!!! Well im telling you right now DONT BUY RAD 4.0!!!!! If you want a RAD toy that is capable of performing unmanned missions, get RAD 2.0. RAD 2.0 can actually bend over and pick things up unlike 4.0 and also has 2 speed treads. Because it can bend over, it can aim the 3 missiles precisely. It can carry drinks and nerf guns too. Also, dont get the original RAD 1.0. 2.0 IS the best! Mine needs some tweaking, but if you modify one to have supirior radio range and mount a wireless camera from www.plantraco.com onto it, it can be the ultimate unmanned scouting machine. Its loud though remember that.

I bought the 4.0 for 20 bucks (had to buy a battery... cost 40 dollars...) and let me say this. It is fun for a while, but the only thing you can do in combat is use it as a distraction or as a battering ram to piss of the enemy. I ended up molesting it and throwing it into my closet, pretty much useless.

Picked up a couple RAD's from the Goodwill,you can duct tape Blastfires to each arm and get a 10 shot blast if you add a little weight to each arm,and use the "lower arm" control to set off the Blastfire button....Yes,I am am Lord of The Geeks.

when i got rad 4.0 i took it the hell back. it was shit. it couldnt run on carpet, it was voice command (gag), it couldnt pick stuff up and it just sucked. i was thinking you could go to a hobby shop, buy some low performance parts and use some wood and stuff to build a combat ROV (remotly operated vehicle). that would not be too hard actually. you would need a camera from www.plantraco.com with some extentions or a more expensive long range one, and use high performance radio equipment for long range (use low performance motors because it doesnt need to go all that fast), and take different servo things to fire guns and to aim them (the camera should be right above the gun rack to aim the guns, or one camera for a driver and one for a gunner, which is alot more efficient if the gunner and the pilot learn to function as one.), and use wheels, treads, or even a propellor depending on where it could be operated. another less expensive operation would be to build a pivoting turret that you can place anywhere using slow moving servos and a camera to aim. Any of these machines would run out of ammo quick unless it uses 2 single fire RF20s or auto reloading.
