I found this pump in my closet, it's a hi-output air pump that pumps air when you pump forwards & backwards. It would be useful for pumping up homemades or even air powered guns since you don't waste time & energy pulling the pump out. It will cut the # of pumps you need to fill a gun in half.

I've seen and used one of those before on a mountainbiking trip a few summers ago. I dunno if it was the same pump, but it sure went fast. It was some frame-mounted bike pump, so I don't think it was what you have.

Double-action pumps have been around for quite a long time, but they are definitely very handy.
