Best quote?
Hal: "Yeah it was really cool, I bought a new Powerbook and they were following me around taking pictures and I'm using it right now, it's really cool."
Radio guy: "You have an erection right now, don't you Hal?"

KROQWhat kind of radio station was it?
They used to play a pretty interesting mix of 'alternative' music that you didn't hear anywhere else. Now they've pretty much sold out but they still play the occasional good song. Here's the current meat of their playlist:
1 Hot Hot Heat - Bandages
2 Linkin Park - Faint
3 The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army
4 The Ataris - Boys of Summer
5 Foo Fighters - Times Like These
6 Good Charlotte - Girls & Boys
7 Jane's Addiction - Just Because
8 Red Hot Chili Peppers - Can't Stop
9 Trapt - Headstrong
10 311 - Creatures (For A While)
11 Audioslave - Like a Stone
12 Queens of the Stone Age - Go with the Flow
13 Staind - So Far Away
14 AFI - The Leaving Song Pt. II
15 Chevelle - Send The Pain Below
16 The White Stripes - The Hardest Button to Button
17 Deftones - Minerva
18 Radiohead - There There
19 Red Hot Chili Peppers - Dosed
20 The Used - Blue and Yellow

And, the radio's playlist isn't bad. The Used is all right, and The White Stripes are good. But they play Good Charlotte ::grimaces:: Sorry to Good Charlotte lovers.

It wouldn't be as bad if they played more songs that weren't made for the radio. I really like The Ataris, and AFI, but they should play more than their singles. And, the radio's playlist isn't bad.

Precisely. Couldn't have said it better myself. It wouldn't be as bad if they played more songs that weren't made for the radio. I really like The Ataris, and AFI, but they should play more than their singles.
Unfortunately, at least in the LA market, there aren't any radio stations that play interesting music except the local college stations. With those, you just have to accept that polka gets the same size time slot as underground hip hop or downtempo and trance.
I attribute the enormous success over the last few years of online music trading software partly to the simultaneous bottoming-out of the largely Clearchannel owned airwaves.

103.1 is the new party station, and i get a kick out of that stuff, even though i hate most of the songs.

Yeah, I like Morning Becomes Eclectic and Metropolis on KCRW. Jason Bently, the music director for the Matrix films, spins on the latter. Strangely, he also has a Saturday night show on KROQ called After Hours.89.9 has good music on their show Morning Gets Eclectic.

The only other station I listen to is KSPC, the Claremont Colleges' station. They seriously play everything under the sun and their DJs are laid back and funny.
As you can see from the following playlists, these stations are most decidedly NOT owned by Clearchannel... <g>

That's me in the red, I don't recal who took the picture Hal showed me the link to it, it's some old friend of his he said...
EDIT:
I remember, Hal was looking most forward to the response from Slashdot, needless to say, they didn't give a damn, and just made fun.
