Wanted to let you all in on some changes in store for the site as well as provide an update on previously announced features.

First and foremost, we're changing hosts. I've identified our new host and will be signing us up in a day or two. I want plenty of time before our existing hosting contract expires so that I can take advantage of having two sites running in parallel and get some updates in place. Hopefully the new host will provide better bandwidth and CPU availability than the current one. Our disk space will increase 5-fold and our transfer allowance will go up a bit. When we actually change over, in 3 or 4 weeks, I'll give everyone an IP address to use temporarily while DNS changes propagate.

While I'm rebuilding the site on our new server, I'm going to upgrade our content management system to Movable Type 2.64 and our forum software to Invision Board 1.2. You'll see a ton of new features because it's the second major release since the version we're currently using. There will probably be some minor visual changes associated with the new software versions but I intend to keep the basic layout and color scheme the same.

Karma is going to get pushed back a bit. I'd set up a test server and written some code but the forum software upgrade is going to force me to rewrite most of it. Fortunately, IPB1.2 is a brand new release (release candidate actually) so I'll have plenty of time to develop karma before they tempt me with v1.3. <g>

I'll post more here in a couple weeks when I have a timeline for the rollover.

I usually like a lot of unscheduled downtime and IRC whining.
