hey guys this is my first post as a newbie and i just want some advice on getting started. nothing is off limits. i.e. vendors, battles, guns get off my website you good for nothing amateur.(not recommended). thanks sorry if this violates the new members rules. just looking for general advice

Your best friend here on NerfHaven will definitly become the Search function. It is found on the upper right hand of any page. This forum has one of the best search engines I have used on all five forums I am part of. Why? because this one gives results which were almost exactly what you would be looking for. Just remember the "post date" field. Usually, "Any Date" is a good thing to have up.

Edit: Why is it that I was the only one with a member number less than 1,000 to post in this? Should I take that as a sign?

Good link, but I think you need to read the TOS among other things. You also didn't even read the TOS, but hey, those things aren't for people like you. You're illegally on this website: http://nerfhaven.com...indpost&p=62455 Good example of what not to do here.

As for my personal advice, stick around, read what's going on to get used to the forum's style, and keep your mouth (i.e. keyboard) shut unless you have something to say. Most problems can be prevented by keeping your stupidity to yourself. If you have legitimate questions, feel free to ask, but be sure to make an effort to find the answer yourself as well. Don't only use the forum search engine, try Google, Yahoo, DMOZ, other forums, and use your brain. I get tons of common sense questions via PMs or emails at my forum and a lot of the time I am reluctant to help them.

A lot of you guys are doing exactly what should not be done on Nerfhaven. Things like pointless flames for mistakes where mabye someone just didn't push the key down hard enough on their keyboard. I mean c'mon, you guys are doing things a very un-nerfhavenish way. Especially in this thread of all of them. I would think that this would be the thread where you guys want to act like leaders so that new members don't get a bad impression of the place.

I'm sorry if it isn't my place to say this, but something had to be done. I'm sure our great mods will get everything back into order.

Edit: Nerfmonkey kind of beat me to it. And is it just me or does Crappy nerfer get on other peoples nerves too?

Going back to general advice...spend time reading through old posts. A lot of what you may be wondering about has been discussed before, and it may not show up on a search for some reason or another (although the General is very right, the search function on this site works very well). So page around, check out the different subjects and see what's "common knowledge".

Anyway, it might seem stupid for me to be giving any advice whatsoever but a good thing to do, is just start scanning older topics. You'll gain a large amount of gun knowledge quickly, and it'll be easier to give valid input on different matters.

Great advice, that would be mine as well.

Regarding the 'bitch at other members privelege', I can almost always be taken quite literally when I'm describing a new rule to someone who pisses me off. Once it became a big enough issue that I had to mention it, it was no longer figurative.

GP - What does join date have to do with seniority? Sure a little, but I think seniority should be based on contributions, good grammar, respectfulness, etc. By no means am I saying you don't show these qualities, because you do, but I am just saying that there are plenty of active members that joined in 03 and prior that probably deserve less respect than some that joined in 05.

If cx gives advice, it is good advice. He tells you to go run off a cliff, generally you should run off a cliff. I don't think he's told anyone to do that yet, however...

This thread is funny. Why? because everyone is posting a lot of off-topic stuff then relating it to make it on-topic or posting a little tidbit of on-topic info. Well, there, I said that.

The PM system is a good thing to be familiar with. If you have to say something to just one person which isn't pertanent to any topic on the left list on the homepage, just PM them. I think I've finally realized how important the PM system was just in the past couple of weeks. Well, learn from me, use it first. That and its fun to scare the crap out of them when they see that they have new messages...

This thread has also been butchered way past the point where things become pointless.

I really don't get why so many members here enshrine join date like they do. So what if you joined 4 years ago, all that says is that you joined 4 years ago. That doesn't automatically imply that the member is of godly status. Someone could be hot-off-the-press new and display better quality posting habits, better experience with online forums, even contribute more than one of old. NH is the only forum I have ever seen [I've seen plenty] which holds such meaningless dates in such high regard. Names should speak for themselves, posts should speak for themselves. Numbers only feed the ego and you could argue that anything feeding the ego also feeds the veteran-n00b relationship problems experienced here and rarely elsewhere.

Felt like getting that out. We should really let this topic fade away, and yes I know my post didn't help that, but someone has to say it-otherwise it never happens.
