OK I want to make a homeade rifle with a clip. I am really starting to take interest in this after Bolt, Carbon, and partially davidbowie inspired me! I am capable of doing this. I can mod most nerf guns well but this would be my first homeade. Can someone give me a simple idea that is effective. I want ranges of about 50 + feet. I also have a few questions
-Is it possibly to make a clip to hold stock darts?
Any help would be greatly appreciated?

What kind of trigger system do you want? To be honest, that's going to be the harder part of making a homemade. Do you want something similar to Bolt's, Carbon's, or mine?

Second, a clip for stock darts is going to be very difficult; you'd probably have to use shells, so they would load properly.

Carbon's trigger would be the easiest.

Simple idea: SNAP 1, or KISS gun.

Ya, you would need shells to have a clip for stock darts. Shells are not exactly easy to work with and create an ejection system for, so I would just make some stefans (just as hard and get better results).

Some tips from experince,
1. Trigger hardest part
2. Plunger esiest part
3. Use stefans
4. Start simple like the Kiss

These are just some tips from experince.

I have a question, what is carbon's trigger system like? Also does it work for plunger type actions?
I myself am making a nerf loser rifle. Im still on the drawing board phase, but so far its coming along well. Anyways...

Works pretty much only with guns that use a plunger.

OK thanks guys. I will
-use Carbon's trigger
-use stefans

I am now planning to make pump gun. I want to be able to prime it about 4 times and then get like 65-70 feet flat. Or can I get those ranges with a spring?

Can I just have feedback on which gun gets better range and is pretty simple(for a first homeade)- the KISS or the SNAP-1?

If you're looking for about 60-70 feet and easy to build, a spring gun will serve you just fine. The SNAP-1, as it was posted, got about 60 feet. I'm currently working on a writeup for the SNAP-1 that incorporates a few of the improvements from later SNAPs (lighter plunger, easier to make gasket) that should improve range a bit...I should have that done in a few days, when I'm able to build it and get pics up.

The only suggestion I would make would be to go at this in the opposite direction. Rather than devising the results, and using them as a goal for the designing of the method, just make something (the method, the blaster), and see what results you get.

Instead of "I want to get this many feet" etc etc, think "wouldn't it be cool if I..."

Just some ideas to get the creative juices flowing...

Anyway, I'm with Ompa. For your first couple homemades go with spring. As far as triggers, I'd say go with the SNAP setup (straightforward, sturdy).

For the KISS vs. SNAP...just try one! or both! At once! Do whatever seems like it could be the most interesting. Good luck Sir!

I hope you own and know how to use a Dremel!

I'm near done with a lil' FAR-type project I've been working on. It's pretty much the same exact gun minus the whole clip arrangement. All I have left to do is make the trigger mechanism, with which I'll either use Bolt's method or one very similar to Bolt's that I drew up.

I tested the thing using a wire as the catch for the plunger and cannot get stock micros to leave the barrel; they seem to get caught at the shell-barrel junction. I guess I just need to smooth out the inside of both. Suggestions?

Dremels aren't required. The point of the SNAP was to be able to build it without major tools. You can build the whole thing with a hacksaw, a drill, a screwdriver, and sandpaper.

Of course, a Dremel makes life a whole lot easier...but that's a given.

I don't own a dremel( no one in my family builds stuff) so will it still be easy to build the SNAP? I have decided to build a SNAP.

Death's avatar- I am a beginner at homeades so I am only going to make 1 of the 2 and I am not expert enough yet to create my own design and be a sucess.

The only problem that I have with the SNAP is the trigger. DOn't get me wrong I think It's ingenoiius but it seems like it will bend and break and you could shoot the gun by accident.
Carbon could you leave feedback of how good your trigger is please? Thanks

Yeah, like I was saying, you really only need a saw, a drill and sandpaper to make a SNAP. Oh, and a screwdriver.

The trigger in the start of the Homebrew Gun thread, with the chunk of metal in it? ...yeah, it's changed a bit since then. Check out the SNAP-2 and SNAP-3, and you'll see how it's currently set up. (Angle iron glued to the top of the pin.) Since I've changed to a plastic clothespin and the angle iron, I've had no reliability problems at all.

Design before you build. It will save you alot of time then going back and forth.

Well what did you think I was going to do??

Carbon- Thanks ...OK I'll check out the SNAP 2 and SNAP 3. Which SNAP do you think is easier/better overall performance.

Im not sure which ones might be the best for performance, becuase they all seem the same, but I do know that the SNAP-3 has the best for style and the bolt action.

OK I have finalized my decision. I am going to make the SNAP-3. BUT if it is okay with Carbon can I slightly change the outer appearance of the SNAP 3? For example maybe throw on a different stock or something like that?

Also I can't seem to find a complete write up to the SNAP-3. Can you direct it to me?

Heh...sure, go nuts. I'm putting them out there so people can take the designs, experiment, and improve on them.

As far as a writeup for the SNAP-3...well, there isn't one, as I'm still really in the process of building it. I only just added a proper spring return for the bolt, and I still want to incorporate the breech I designed with a level/pull system that activates with the bolt handle. But really, the differences between the different SNAPs are minor. In the two, there's the bolt attached to the plunger, the slot, and the longer plunger. In the 3, the plunger chargerod isn't attached to the plunger so it can move back forward into it.

I'll be posting a SNAP writeup shortly. It's written, I just need the pictures.

OK great take your time with the write up and I'll just wait a bit untill there is a write up and then start building.
