I just painted my Maverick, at last. the temperature's finally high enough for good paint application. I used Krylon "Fusion" paint, I saw some cans of "Ultra-flat Camouflage" spray paint, so I grabbed them. Good paint, it applied very well. Dunno why, but the green took MUCH longer to dry than the black. I did miss two spots, but mostly it's done.

To paint the blaster, I took it apart and laid the parts down on newspaper (not enough, though, cover a VERY wide area!). As you can see, I missed the right-hand side of the trigger. heh. The photos don't show it well, but I also left the front orange tube unpainted, so that it's fairly evident I'm not trying to go for a "real gun" appearance. Just a "cool" appearance.

That's the best paintjob I've seen so far. I really love the dark camo green and black combination, it really masks the toyish look of the maverick that I hate. The whole gun looks clean and well painted besides the trigger. Very nice job, I might use that colorscheme for one of my guns if I get around to it.

I would have to say I love it as well.
As sick of maverick paint jobs as I am, I do like it.

Except for the trigger. What happenned?

I don't get my kicks out of you,
I don't feel the way I used to do.
I know its bad,

What happened with the trigger is that I was an idiot. I took the gun apart, laid out each half, and sprayed it like that...problem is, I forgot to flip over the left half and get the other side of the trigger. Whoops. I didn't notice until I got it back together. You can also see that I missed a bit on the sliding 'cocker mechanism.

That's part of the reason I posted an incomplete job like this. I wanted others to learn from my mistakes. Painting the Maverick (and probably other guns too) is very easy, and because of the way it comes apart it's very easy to get a clean, two-toned appearance. Just lay out lots of newspaper, and if you don't have a paint made especially for plastics, use a good primer first. Light coats are the key to retaining the detail work.

Thanks for the friendly words, all.

Meh, the trigger-job gives the gun a 2 sided personality.

If I were new to Nerf, I could easily mistake that for a stock paintjob. Very nice turnout. I keep hearing about people using Krylon Fusion, and it really tempts me to give my guns a good painting. This is the best I've seen around here so far. Nice work!

Nice job! Good idea leaving the tip orange, in case a polce officer thinks it loooks too real.

Just for clarification, the ultra-flat stuff you used is Krylon fusion right? The phrasing on your post could either mean ultra flat fusion paint, or that there happened to be ultra-flat paint next to the fusion on the shelf. If flat Krylon fusion exists, I'm getting some asap.

You should paint the accent of the handle the same color as the cylinder and cocking mechanism.

It'd look schweeeet

Pissbacon: Yes, it's Krylon, Ultra-flat. There's a small oval on the can that says "uses fusion technology." I think it's intended for hunters: Posted Image

There's a picture of the can so you can spot it in the store easier. I'm honestly not trying to be a shill here, but the stuff does work well. Only time will tell how durable it is, though.

davenelz, I agree with you. That's something I'd certainly like to do, but I'm not sure how to mask the rest of the gun to just paint that. Any suggestions?

Tape the whole handle with masking tape, and press down the definition line b/w the acent and the palm side of the handle, then use an x-acto knife and cut along the line. When you've got only the accent exposed, paint it with the color.

I don't know if I'd say it's the best I've ever seen, but definitely in the top three. It's a clean spray, professional quality, and of course; aesthetically and functionally awesome. I'd give it a 10. Is that a Firefly I see behind it? Paint that. I've been waiting for FF jobs to start showing up, and since I now know that you have both the paint and the gun, I expect great things from you.

That's my favorite painted mav I've seen so far. I really like the dark blue, but the green I don't like so much. If I were I'd paint gray over the green/olive parts.

That looks great, nice clean job, but in thoes pics I see dark blue not black and a grayish color not green. Maybe I'm just goin blind though.

I'd be interested to hear how this paint job holds up. If Krylon Fusion paint works like vinyl dye does, then you'll be able to scrape/scratch it off the inside of the grip, the butt, the top-rail, and the slide (assuming you didn't sand any of those prior to painting). It should have bonded completely to the basic blue 'frame' of the gun though, so that should take a lot of abuse.

You did a nice clean job, definitely. The method mentioned for painting the grip works, (the whole tape and x-acto knife thing,) but you have to be very precise...and press the tape down firmly at the edges, or you'll get leakage beneath it.
