if I drilled a bigger hole in the back of the shell would that help or not??

If it does help, it would be minor. I havent done this myself so I cant be 100% sure. However, be sure not to make them too big as you may lose your air-seal.

From what I've observed, a slightly bigger hole is useful (but doesn't affect the dart a whole lot).
