1. Why didn't you search the members database?
2. Why didn't you search the members database?
3. No member of this name exsists, why do you ask?
4. Why did you feel compelled to start this stupid fucking thread?

I'll give you one post to answer these questions. Make it good.

In his defense, what if he did a search but found nothing?
There have been many a time that i've seen a name on a forum, forgotten what it was exactly or what forum it was on, then asked around.
Frankly, you came down way too hard, dude. That was not cool.

I'm going to politely disagree before Talio comes and impolitely disagrees...

See, many of us have been here for quite awhile, to discuss aspects of Nerf, Nerf blasters and modifications, warring in it's many forms, and the like, with an OCCASIONAL interesting Off-Topic discussion here and there.

The fact is, many new users neither understand forum protocol and manners, nor do they utilize the many tools that are available on boards to avoid asking redundant questions, asking about basic things that can be done without making another post on the board, and saving posts for RELEVANT things pertaining to topics.

For some reason or other, they believe that the boards are some sort of playground where they can post to their heart's content, about irrelevant, nonsensical, or basically mentally deficient posts that detract from the overall character and flow of what this particular board is for (others, such as this great site, are much more tolerant of such youthful actions), and they believe that posting is a God-given privilege of some sort, when in fact, the site owner has full right, vested in his administration team, to regulate such posts in any way they see fit.

If it were a new user with, say, 3 or 4 posts, I can understand that they are truly confused and could use some assistance. The user in question has a fairly large number of posts for the join date, and in my opinion, should have a fair grasp of what's going on...there should be no excuses by this time.

I've been here long enough to know that there are people genuinely interested in the hobby of Nerfing, there are people who are lonely and bored who use the discussion boards as a substitute for a social life, and there are those who simply have no clue what goes on, and refuses to watch and learn before hitting the "submit" button.

You've given me an idea.

Talio's point is that there is an inclusive list of our members linked at the top of the page. Given this, asking the question "Has anyone heard of member x?" is pretty lame.

If he were to ask something like "Hey, I forgot the name of that guy who made those cool homemades back in '04-'05 - does anyone remember?" then I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Edit: Thanks Piney, you beat me to it, but I'll leave this for further clarification

There, was it that hard? All I wanted was something more polite. There was far too much anger in your first post, and that's what set me off. I agree, he could have phrased it better, given relevant details, or bothered to do a search first. (or at least state that he did, but still found nothing) But there is no reason for insults and profanity, even if the post is stupid and pointless.

There was far too much anger in your first post

Nobody else made a second post here. You do realize that you are being critical of an admin, not the smartest thing to do given the style in which it was presented and the location. Plus, the volume of stupid questions that get posted on this site is a burden on the admins and therefore the will and/or energy to hold back insults/flames/whatever was sapped out long ago. On a perfectly utopian forum, all responses would be polite, and all users would be intelligent. But it simply doesn't work that way. I wouldn't pick apart an admin's style of carrying out their affairs unless they have clearly given that right to common members.

This topic should not have happened in the first place, but we can't do anything about that now, so the best thing to do is to stop responding. [I realize my post is therefore hypocritical, but the topic is not worth more posts, which usually happens if someone doesn't say something].

There, was it that hard?

When you deal with dozens per day it's rather time consuming.

All I wanted was something more polite.

We don't really do polite here. As already mentioned, The HQ enforces civility as a god-given right.

There was far too much anger in your first post, and that's what set me off.

Talio only posted once. If you think that was anger, you don't know Talio. If you have further issues with Admin action on this site, kindly fuck yourself.

I agree, he could have phrased it better, given relevant details, or bothered to do a search first. (or at least state that he did, but still found nothing)

Now imagine putting up with several years worth of the above instead of one month and you may begin to understand our perspective. Compare your member number to mine if you need help imagining.

But there is no reason for insults and profanity,    even if the post is stupid and pointless.

Stupid and pointless posts are the absolute best reason for insults and profanity.

Asshole.

I did search my friend said that he had a account on nerfhaven and I know it had the word squid in it and alien versus squid was the thing that I thought I remembered him saying. He also said two other things:

1. He said he had an upgraded account.

2. He said that people with upgraded accounts can have more than one accounts.

To add to CX's post, imagine all that bullshit we deal with on a daily basis and then look at our personal lives too.

CX - Full time job, two kids.
Shinny - Engineering student at VT. Enough said.
Myself - 75 hour work weeks.

Generally I get my lunch hour to check this site. That's the only freetime I have to use the computer. So really, if you have a problem with me cursing or being in polite, you can go to NHQ, because I don't fucking care.

On another note, it's because of this site that I don't have an anger management problem. Between this and practicing kung fu, my daily aggression and anger are bled out on a daily basis. So unless you want to take the full wrath of the fight I had with my girlfriend or the memo that told me I had to stay an extra four hours tonight, I wouldn't be so quick to critize my actions.

If you have a problem with how I do my job, I urge you to talk to CX, or start a boycott or some shit and have me fired, I could use my lunch break back.

Talio.

To be blunt, I think so.

He's a network supervisor or something. Something to do with computer networks in office buildings that he must always be on call for. (Maybe he's a network technitian?) In this way, there are times when he probably goes over 75 hours a week.

I won't speak for him, but I do believe as Black Wrath said, Talio is an IT administrator who runs a heck of a lot of computers, keeps mainframes from crashing, things like that.

I think after staring at computer screens all day pertaining to work, he'd like to come to the boards and see some productive posting. Heck, I work 70-80 hour work weeks, but I'm a retreat director on the most stress-free place on Earth (my opinion), and much of my day is in the great outdoors working with my hands (driving a tractor, working on irrigation systems, painting, maintenance, things like that), and only about 15 - 20 % is in the office doing admin work and sittin' at the computer.

Point is, he's an admin, and like I said in the first post, the site owner (cxwq) has empowered his admins to manage and regulate the boards from violations of the forum rules in any way they see fit. I concur and agree with the methodology of each admin member...cx owns the joint, so he does whatever the hell he wants. VACC and Talio bring a no-nonsense, to-the-point kind of administration that is sometimes necessary. Shindig is a voice of reason, with a pinch of compassion that shouldn't be mistaken for weakness. Spoon is pretty laid back and doesn't do too many suspensions. If I left anyone out I apologize. I appreciate and support the necessity for the variety of different moderating techniques.

If you have a problem with how I do my job, I urge you to talk to CX, or start a boycott or some shit and have me fired, I could use my lunch break back.

This isn't directed at you, Starlancer, but Talio is on to something. I'd suggest that if anyone is not satisfied with the way the boards are run, a boycott would be in good order.

Just don't post anything, to protest the administration. In fact, if anyone is upset about the place, I'd suggest not coming to the site at all as a symbol of protest. That would be a good idea.

My join date indicates that I haven't had a problem with the way the place is run. In fact, it's quite pleasant here.

cx owns the joint, so he does whatever the hell he wants.

This isn't intended as a slight to Piney cause he's a stud, but I don't correct this misconception often enough so here goes...

This Being The Storied History Of The Founding Of NerfHaven

Vacc and Cxwq, being similarly ticked off NO admins did decide to fashion a new Interweb site in their own image. The conception, name, rules, and even color scheme were decided over the course of nigh on a thousand chat sessions between the aforementioned Deities of Nerf, with vast amounts of input from Groove and Julie. The financing, similarly, was jointly provisioned. With virtual middle fingers firmly extended, the unholy partnership did announce their creation to the world and the legacy began.

Spoon's only administrative action to date is the inadvertent deletion of a post he was trying to quote. The whole plan, however, would have failed completely without his sexy ass being here to play pied piper to your quivering mouse.

In conclusion, I'll join my friends Talio and Piney in encouraging all disaffected and discontented NH members to boycot this site. NH was never intended to be a major player in the NIC anyhow.

Yeah, seriously, if you have a problem with the Admins, stop posting. Stick it to us. We hate it when shitty members dissappear.

Okay, here's what I do for a living. I am a GTI Engineer. GTI stands for Global Technology Infrastructure. Basically that means I work on computers that cost more then your lives. I work on a team that's responsible for a large data center enviroment with a high 5 digit device count. If something breaks, I fix it. If something needs to be taken out, I take it out. If something needs to be installed, I put it in. So consider working in a huge mission critical production enviroment and have to learn and know every nuance about every piece of hardware and software on every machine for a very very large bank. Then imagine that it takes 8 people to do said job and you're doing it with 3. That's what I do. It's time consuming.

So yes, when I show up to do a job I DON'T FUCKING GET PAID FOR and VOLUNTEER TO DO only to see a bunch of ass clowns fucking up our delicate balance of a community, I decide to take all that frustration from my job and to pour it into that individual who's fucking up our forums. It's been pretty effective thus far.

I guess it makes sense. Theres just too many forums that take it easy, give people 10 chances not to fuck up, curb the language so that 'damn' and 'hell' is blocked, and want everyone to get along. Need to get used to a forum that doesn't give a shit about the idiots for a change. It makes a hell of a difference when the mods actually enforce the rules rather than slap on the wrists or try to laugh it off.

I suggested that people let the topic die 13 and 15 posts back. Then again, many of the posts were by admins, so those ones are excusable. I'll quote myself a 3rd time:

the best thing to do is to stop responding. [I realize my post is therefore hypocritical, but the topic is not worth more posts, which usually happens if someone doesn't say something].

Well, I did say something, and 15 posts later, maybe people will listen..
