I just got a SM1.5K with a broken pump from my friend. I can get the thing apart except for the red cap at the base of the pump. How do I get it off?

do what most people do to get it off to do their mods, pry it off gently, or lightly go around the edges of the cap with a hacksaw, lightly, and take it off, but i would get a second opinion from someone else. BTW, is it an old or new version?

That's odd...out of the five (new) SM1500's that I modded, the red end cap simply twisted right off, so much so that when re-assembling them, I put a dab of hot glue to hold it in place until it needed servicing.
Then again, if you have an (old) 1500, I think they put some nasty glue/ boogers in there...that one was hard. The odd shape of the end cap also made that one difficult to remove. For that one I treated it like a AT2k, scribing around the cap with an x-acto knife (be patient), and twisting it off. Might need to put a bit of hotglue when re-assembling.
Have fun repairing/ modding!
