[Spider-Waffle]

What are the different kinds of systems used in nerf guns and aplicable real guns? I know about bolt, semi-auto, and full-auto, but I'd like to know more specific aplications of these and what clip designs there are and how they work.

I currently think the R-clip v2 is one of the best I've seen in term of being bolt(possible semi-auto) operated, simple/easy to make, not requiring shells, unlikely to jam. However the clips have a horrible (max length)/(number of rounds) ratio.

Personally, I liked the first R clip better. I think the best clips are gravity fed, open top (so you can drop stefans in while in combat), shell-less (they're a real pain), and easy to construct with a minimum amount of materials. I like the ones that don't use brass, since brass is more expensive than PVC, and much less versitile.

More kinds of systems:
Rotating bolt (I believe that's what they're called)
Blowback to advance clip
Trigger to advance clip (as seen in the Maverick/Firefly)
For full auto, you can use two spinning wheels that propel the dart
Live action trigger (Razorbeast)
Motorized

There are many more, but most are variations of clip styles with some form of the above.

That's kind of like trigger/blowback except it uses pressurized air.

So you've got all those stefans side by side spring loaded and a sliding copper pipe to try and load them; seems like you might have some trouble sliding the pipe around them. Have you ever thought about making a similar system but double file the stefans like lots of real gun clips do?

I suppose I could, but I'm kinda lazy. The brass doesn't actually slide around the dart; it's 17/32, so it's almost the same diameter. However, it's the same size I use for my constricted barrels. so the dart basically shoots through the constriction. It could be altered to use 9/16 brass, which I'm trying to do right now.

Not to derail the thread, but:

I love the design of your Mountain Rifle. Nolan (A member of the {SF3G} clan)attempted an armor-defeating rifle after one of my neighbors attended a local war wearing styrofoam armor.

The cabinet voted down his request for a Titan, but allocated an Air tech 3000 for the job. After several days he presented his attemp at an anti-armor rifle.

It was basically a standard singled AT3K (Overpressure plug, etc) using a very large caliber. I'm not sure, but I believe it was chambered with 1 and 1/2 inch foam backer rod.

The darts were 2 inch long Matchstick Stefans, weighted with a short wood-screw.


The rifle was fairly formidable, but no-where near as powerful or fast as Nolan had hoped. However, it serverd its purpose: No one has since attended one of our wars wearing any armor (Other than eye-protection, which is perfectly respectable.)



And as always, I love your T-26 Carbine. Even if it was before my mangled Nite-Mav.
