My only experience with an air gun was long ago, but it had excellent range and stuff stock. I loved it. Now my maverick and NF offer faster ROF's, but the ranges don't compare really...

Yeah, that's what I was thinking..

In theory, if you have a huge reservoir of air pushing out a dart as opposed to a little plunger, the large chamber will provide a lot more volume of pressurized air. Now, I wonder if spring guns get higher pressure than air ones, just with lower volume...

Has anyone tried combining spring and air?

Imagine a compressed air tank with a plunger in it. The plunger is cocked, and air is pumped into the tank. When the plunger is fired, it forces the compressed air out through a high-pressure valve to the barrel. This would combine the volume of an air gun with the speed and pressure of a spring.

I imagine it exploding.

Either way, I prefer spring guns. Air guns will give you better range in a smaller package, for sure, but spring guns are faster. All that's needed is bigger plungers and springs. And generally speaking, spring guns looks much better.

I prefer spring guns. The rate of fire for air guns is way too slow if someone is charging at you and you trying to grab the ramrod so you can stuff a dart down the barrel of your at2k. Unless you have a gun like the hornet where you can shoot a couple darts without re-primeing the gun. Spring guns can't do that. Unless you built a cocking mechinism that spidered out and primed multiple plungers at once and had its own ato rotate thingy, like the mav... I'll shut up now...

Dys70pia, what you're talking about is approaching the realm of air bladders.

I don't like to play favorites, but I'd have to go with spring, simply because of the rof and coolness.

Well I will take a shot at this thread. Correct me if I am wrong, but the only effective stock spring guns are single shot guns. Sure there is the Maverick, Sawtooth, and EE, but those are not realy effective and succesful guns. To most there just ok guns. Stock air guns have the ability to be succesfuly clip fed, or have a turret. For example the sm 1500, PC, at2k, at3k, sm 1000, at4k, and many others. Sure you can devise a clip for a spring gun, but that takes skill, supplies, and time. Stock air guns with clips or turrets just have better oppurtunites to be better guns with just barrel replacements. So to conclude I chose Air, over Spring. Plus my favorite guns are the sm 1k, and 500.

But I have a couple of spring classics and great guns like the x bow, maxshot, and nf, so that might change after nerfing more and learning about my own playing style and game.

I would say it depends on the situation.ROF=spring.Range=air
Classic military phrases:

"Retreating?! Heck no, we're just advancing in other direction!"

"Are there any experienced suicide bombers?"

"Any ship can be a minesweeper... once."

"Don't run, you'll only die tired."

Nerfster it is ture that it does depend on the situation, but you got to pick a gun that is best overall. Because in a war you will most likely be holding one or two guns with you, and you can't just be like a PC is the best know I am going to pull that one out of my ass. You have to find a gun that is best for you overall, and then see if its Air/ spring. Or atleast thats the way I play, I don't know maybe you use many weapons during a round.

Edit: How does Spring= Rof, just beacuse everyone is saying that? Back your statement up for me I dont understand. Or atleast you can defenitley get a faster shot off with a at2k turret modded, than a couplered maxshot

Come on mate, I can get incredible ROF on my brand new hornet after I load it up.. Six darts as fast as I can pull the trigger, after 20 quick pumps (sounds like a lot, but it goes quickly).

After buying the Nerf unity set or whatever it's called last night for $17.90 (how much is it normally?) I like air over spring. The only spring guns I have experience with are the NF, Maverick, and the Scout that comes with this set. Let's compare to the hornet:

Maverick and Hornet have about same ROF, but it takes a bit longer to initially load the hornet. Stock ranges? My hornet diddled my Maverick. It wasn't just your everyday diddle either, this was statuatory diddle. Ugly. The accuracy on my Hornet is crazy, as it was on my NF. But the NF doesn't have crap for ROF. The ONLY disadvantage to the hornet is a long "down" time when you have to reload and repump, but the maverick has one too.

So all in all, I have to say I prefer air power now.

By the way, I think I orgasmed last night when I found out the Titan's barrel is threaded. I hope to god I find that thread somewhere...

As far as indoor NERFing, I'd have to choose Spring. As I said in the other similar poll, I get shot full of holes if I choose an air gun in a war because of the reloading time. I also chose Spring simply because of the NF and the BBB.

I won't argue with the fact that Air has better range and acuracy, because it's true, air guns have double the range of any spring gun, but you can't beat the ease of reloading with springers.
