Hello All, I finaly finished the paintjob on my new X-bow, I deemed it THE seXbow 2.0, becasue it's prety much the same mod, with an even sexier paintjob. so it uses my UBS system and works with all of that kind of stuff.

I had origionaly intended to do this badboy entirely out of krylon fusion, but while i was Ace Hardware the other day i stumbled onto this:


X-metals is designed to paint metal so if you want to use it on a plastic you have to use a special basecoat first, The colored paint is translucent and produces an anodized look.

The Basecoat is Krylon fusion Red, then I masked it for the flame, I then had to use the X-metals basecoat(the silver can) next, then followed that with the blue coat, which is kinda like a candy coat of sorts. then i sprayed like at least 5-6 clearcoats cuz i'm not sure how durable this paint is. the fron end and the plunger rod are fusion royal blue.

Very nice, the metalic blue and red look really sharp. The crispness on the lines for the flames is also very well done, the Krylon Metals paint is a good find. On a side note how is the paint holding up and what kind of sealant did you use.

yes, the seXbow 1.0 is in the care of Cosmo, one of the other members of my clan.

I used a huge ammount of standard krylon clearcoat, also i made and edit to explain the paint detail a little more.

1) How much was the new Krylon X-metals paints? It's obviously a direct competitor with the "Metalcast" simulated anodize that Anima started using (and I've bought a couple cans myself). The finish on your two-part job is wonderful.

2) Keep us posted as to durability of the new finish after a few rounds. The Metalcast is beautiful (I have a purple finish), but is quite delicate, and not too conducive to rough field play (unless you clearcoat it, perhaps....I'll be watching how yours does).

3) What's next?

Good job! Looks like a new trend in personalizing blasters rising.

I think the cocking handle would have looked better in red aswell though.

the thing about the two royal blue parts of the gun is that when I started this paintjob project i did not intend to use the X-metals blue. I had originaly planned a compleetly different scheme that involved fusion blue anywhere a stock x-bow is grey and a navy blue topcoat, but this x-metals stuff looks waaay better.

Piney, Here's my answers:

1: the X-metals paint cost around $5.50 a can, but part of that may be that i bought it at ACE and they tend to charge more for spraypaint than most places.

2: I'll glady keep you updated, from what i've learned so far x-metals isn't the most durable stuff ever, but it seems like i will hold up prety nice. I did severely clearcoat this badboy so i hope it helps. As long as i don't drop it, it should do alright.

3: What's next? well i was going to keep it under wraps untill completion but i'll let you know: i have three more big jobs in the works: a X-metals painted Silver/Blue/Green BBB, A Neon pink/metalic black/x-metals blue Old edition NF, and a Neon Pink/metalic black/X-metals blue 2k, The pink ones are for my GF, and she will be sporting them at YANO.

Also I've been experiementing with a Color-change paint and may incorperate it into some of those jobs.

I'm also planning on re-painting doomcookie 1, but i'm not sure how yet and one of these days I'm gonna paint that SS2 of mine...

If the X-metals are anything like the Metalcast paint (and they should be, being virtually the same product for the same price) then no, they're not durable at all, and should be clear-coated multiple times. One clear-coat was not enough to keep my Metalcast green Maverick from getting the paint scraped off, despite having used a plastic primer, etc.

Clear coat is your friend! Make those fragile paintjobs endure!

The pictures of your BBB look fantastic, I like that the front and rear sections are going to be two different colors with silver connecting the two. That's a very original approach.
What are you doing to mod it besides the paint job?

I've removed the air restrictors, and the stock barrel works perfectly as a coupler for the UBS so it will shoot micros. the barrel and trigger are going to be color change Green-Blue-Purple. I'll explain more when it's complete.

I know i could have done a little better on the detail work of this gun (overspray on a couple parts, but it's a pain in the ass to mask a nf, and no matter how hard you try, you're bound to get a few slip-ups)

Wow, those paintjobs are realy amazing. The paint looks realy thin, radiant and clean. Are you going to convert your at2k and LBB, to match the X bow or BBB. Or are all your guns gonna be a different paint scheme?

I seriously dig that BBB, that thing is sleek. And if I may make a recommendation that I've made to others before, I would imagine that if it works you would find auto paint benificial. Maybe try a can out on a NF or something cheap (it doesn't get much cheaper, but if you had a scout laying around that would be more worthy of being a test pilot), and see how it works for you. Or let me know if you've already experimented with the stuff, but when I've used it on things it looks sweet and is usually fairly resilliant. And the auto clear-coat is supposed to be pretty tough too.

I get those at GI Joes or Fred Myers, by the way.

I'm interested in using that auto paint clearcoat, because i know that the Krylon isn't all that effective in the sense of durability.

You're right, masking NFs *is* a pain in the rear. Around the grip in particular... I thought I had it sealed away nicely, but I got leaks beneath the tape as well.

Hobby shops sometimes carry a 'liquid masking' product that might help you out. You brush on a fairly heavy coat of it on whatever you don't want painted. Let it dry, then spray away. Once the paint has dried, use soap and water and the liquid mask stuff will wash right off along with the paint atop it.

I'm using it on the Firefly I'm painting now, just because it's shape is hopeless and the details would be insane to try and tape-mask.

I just cut it out of the masking tape with an x-acto, and it's kinda lame, but yeah.

Drawing flames is an art, and a tough one at that.

The way you added color to the front handle on the bbb is great, I may have to do a little touch up on my bbb now that I've got some new ideas.

update! I've got various Info on the X-metals paint relating to my BBB, x-bow, and My Gf's NF. On some parts x-metals paint is extreemly Fragile, even when heavaly clearcoated and on other parts it's really durable. my x-bow is holding up quite well as is the bulk of the BBB. Most of the places with problems are the parts of a nerf blaster that don't take paint all that well anyway: NF's Plunger shaft and The BBB's front barrel and the Little nub Dealys that hold the plunger tube in place are both kinda wacked out now.


And Here's what's next:

My GF's New 2k: Fusion White Basecoat with Krylon Neon Pink over that, X-metals Blue over X-metals basecoat, and Plasti-Kote Color Change Paint on trigger, pump handle and Psudo-airtank, all gloss coated.
