1/2" is a standard for most nerfers.
1/2" generally fits well in 9/16ths brass and 1/2" CPVC. 5/8" generally fits well in 1/2" copper, 1/2" PVC, and 19/32nds brass.
Again, these are approximate. You need to take FBR to the pipes, and test the fit to be sure.
Not in the game anymore, but it was great while it lasted. Thanks for the great years of fun, NH!

Bring your bloody FBR to the pipe, and test the bloody thing. No one can tell you what fits best, all FBR is different.

Agreed with BW. It's basically going to come down to trial and error over what FBR is available to you. You've gotten to the point where you've heard opinions, so you have an idea of what to look for, now fine tune it with your own research. You're testing my patience.

1/2" FBR may fit decently into CPVC. It doesn't for me, I've done the research. Why doesn't it? No one can tell you what fits best, all FBR is different.
You will also find that 1/2" FBR will fit very loosely in a PVC barrel. Some people nest crayolas or brass in them.
All you need to do now is take the initiative and check it out for yourself.
