Suddenly, the idea popped up; "Hey, let's have a Nerf WAR!" At first, I thought, "We didn't plan anything." But heck, it's supposed to be spontaneous anyway, right?
My brother-in-law had my nephew's blasters stashed in his truck, and I had my NiteFinders and stuff, so I said, "Let's go, gang!"
The group consisted of 9 of us, so I volunteered to ref. There were two distictly unique things about this day...
1) There were ages ranging from 7 years old, to **purposely left out to protect my bro-in-law**, old enough. The teams could be fairly split by ages and/or experience.
2) Most of the group wasn't my regular Nerfers, so that meant mostly FIRST TIMERS at Nerfing. That made a huge impact on the fun factor, as well as the learning curve in the honor system, etc.
Because there were four kids (under age 11), we opted to go for just stock blasters, except for my modded NFs, which shoot stock darts about 35-40 feet, hence they were the strong blaster of choice. The few stefans I sacrificed for this day could only be stuck part way in, thusly not causing too much close-range injuries.
The first team was led by my brother-in-law (in green), and the Firefly that almost had to be pried from his hands. He really likes it.
Team 2 was led by my nephew, with his brand-new RF20.
And of course, you don't mess with the ref, because he has a rocket.
We tried some hallway battle, eliminations, and sieges. Battle in confined quarters rocks, especially when my nephew waited until the "10 seconds" mark to rush the hallway and spray darts all over the place.
We ran hallway skirmishes about 8 times, then everyone was getting winded about an hour later. One of the youngsters 'jacked my Titan and opened up on the opposing team; it flew all the way down the hallway and out the door (about 60 feet)!
I brought the group outside for some improvised CTF rounds, no-standoff mode. One flag, center, one hit outs. Rounds lasted only a few minutes, if even. It was fun to watch them run and shoot.
One pooped but happy bunch of people. I'm still in my 'ref vest'.
FOLLOW UP:
1) We're planning another battle before school vacation is up. The kids really enjoyed themselves, and we might be able to recruit some new people to play too.
2) With the older kids/ teens, there is some disputes whether a hit was scored, especially with stock blasters. These are the guys I want to recruit into more heavily modded Nerf blasters, with definite feedback when hit. The younger kids, I couldn't bear to see them shot with a modded 2k.
3) My brother-in-law and I are fascinated with the RF20. We looked at it for quite some time, trying to figure out how it basically works, and subsequently how to tweak it.
4) I now want a full-auto Nerf blaster. Possibly a powerclip. Or two, if you-know-who might want one too. Nerf is making it's way in o'er here.
EDIT; resized the pics a bit.
