You can get foam backer rod at home depot it's just called Poly Foam Caulk Saver and its under insulation

Will I have to cut the brass into the right size, or do most hobby shops have the brass in different lengths alread? Also, how long do I need the brass to be for most barrel mods?

It generally comes in 12" pieces only so you'll have to cut it.

Check out the mods on this site for some guidelines - generally 4-8", depending on which gun you're modding. If you can give us specifics we can help you better.

Another tip: (This may be common sense to many people.)
For semi-auto or multiple barreled guns, use a shorter length of PVP or brass. This makes the modding cheaper, lets you reload faster, and makes more sense.

Welcome to the boards, Wolfy. Have a good stay. Just in case you want an example of what not to do on these boards, just look at how I acted when I started.
Like everyone else has said, you're best bet for modded guns is to do it yourself. One foot of 9/16 K&S brass ran me about two bucks at my local hobby shop, and I've seen AT2K's around for about five to six bucks.
I'm sure you could find a mod online, or you could make one up and amaze all of us.

Wolfy; since you're new to Nerf you might want to spend some time checking out NerfHQ . They have alot of content which covers the basics of Nerf and some of the mods on their page are a bit easier to understand.

If you're going to make your own darts, check out their basic guide here. I thought we used to have a dart guide somewhere on 'Haven but I can't seem to find it. At any rate, I hope you stick around and give us the chance to teach you a thing or two.

p.s. I hate the keyboards at my school's library with a newfound passion; I shouldn't need to use both thumbs to make the space bar work.

Okay, here's how this happened. I was looking at the Online List and someone was looking at this thread, so I decided to reply to it, thinking it was new. If you look at the post dates for the replies just before mine, this thread is approaching a year old. So don't reply to it, because I think we scared the guy off or something.

However, I still think it would be a good idea to put together some kind of newbie guide to nerf.
