which size (inside diameter of brass tube) fits most types of fbr?

Brass is normally referred to as its outer diameter (ie, 17/32" brass). Stock darts fit snugly in 17/32" brass. What kind of FBR are you using?

That would be his red foam. I suggest that you click on his name which will lead you to his proflie. From there you click options, then view member's topics. Next, find his topic in which he sold his red foam (he no longer sells it). He should have info on the barrel material that works best for the foam.

doomslayer.

Haa...funny.

If you're using a sprinkler valve as your firing mechanism, an easy way to avoid having to modify them (such as this gentleman did here: http://www.instructa...ic-loser-Rifle/ ) is to use two A23 batteries...they are about the size of AAs but are 12v each, which makes them easier to add on to the body of your 'blaster' and easier to wire up than a series of 3 '9v's...you can find them at your local CVS, Target and BJ's.

Ah, the filter strikes again. If you don't know how to compensate for the luser-filter, just go to the creator of said luser-rifle's link http://www.instructa...ember/irwinner/ and click on the offending link therein.

New subject, so hopefully I won't earn a vacation for double-posting.

I just found an interesting source for springs:

Posted Image

That's an 18" spring with the following specs:

3-3/8" coil length
3/4" coil diameter
1/16" wire diameter
(so that's a 5/8" inner diameter, if I understand 'coil diameter' correctly. I know my spare piece of 17/32" brass slides snugly down the center.)

Above it is the packaging from Schuck's / Kragen's. Part number 29004, $6. It's a 4 pack of springs, but only this one is useful. The packaging says "Pedal Return Spring Assortment."

Immediately below it is a Home Depot spring that sounds a lot like a "Ace #49", but I don't have the Ace to compare it with. It's 4 coils too long for a Nitefinder but otherwise fits fine. It has about 20# working load. The Home Depot part number is 684-838.

That's not the point - the point is that it looks a lot like the bottom-most spring when you buy it. It's tension spring, not a compression spring. Wrap the long end around something sturdy (such as the handle of a boltcutter you'll be glad you have to cut the spring down to size) and pull the other end with a pair of pliers until it gets to the right length.

Yes, you can pull it longer, but this is the coil distance it restores to after you compress it back down to its original length and let it expand back.

I remember someone saying their hardware store (in Malaysia, I believe) had no stock in springs. Here's an alternate supply. Is it as good as a factory spring? Nope. If nothing else, the ends aren't 'finished' into a pair or trio of compact coils neatly stacked. I'm sure stretching a torsion spring does it no favours. However, for someone who is otherwise bereft of springs, this could be an option, and a cheaper one at that. (The HD springs come 2 to a $4 pack, so you get 2" per dollar. This gave me 18" for $6, so you get 3" per dollar.)

It seems about as strong as the HD spring. I don't have a means to measure it, otherwise I could say for sure.

I didn't see a post in this thread about it, but for those looking for brass online for decent prices Amazon.com now carries "Small Parts" brand brass tubing which is compatible with K&S, and even better is that it is eligible for Amazon's shipping discounts (I'm getting free 2-day shipping with Amazon Prime).

The pricing is good ($7.72 for a 17/32 3-pack), and they seem to have a wide selection of options as far as purchasing either one-foot or three-foot lengths in either three or six packs. I have personally purchased and used 17/32 and 9/16 from here and mixed it in with my leftover K&S for things like Angel breaches and had no issues.

The only thing for people not as familiar with brass is make sure you're ordering the stuff that has 0.014" wall, because that is the right size if you're going to be mixing with K&S. The link I put in above is for the 3-pack of 17/32 one-foot.

I've ordered those three packs off of Amazon in the past. They're a steal. Also, the one's I'm got were K&S. Small Parts is just a distributor unless I'm mistaken.

I'm having some trouble finding a decent spring to add to an ERTL RFSG and I don't have any spare BBB/LS springs. So anyone have a part number for MCMaster Carr for a useful replacement spring? I was thinking about ordering a [k26] but the ID looks to be too small.

Mcmaster [k25] springs fit perfectly on RFSG plungers.

I was looking for thinwall 1 1/2 inch PVC. I was going to use it for a pump handle on my WIP RAINSnap. I knew it wasn't at any store, but I also didn't want to order it from FlexPVC. Too much money for the length I needed, too much hassle...

...I was at Home Depot with my dad one night. He need some adaptor for his RIGID Shop vac. I was done looking around so I waited with him until he was done. I noticed that RIGID also had vacuum tubes that attach to the Shop Vac. There were two pipes, so I picked the smaller one in dimaeter. I then took it over to the PVC and the end that was not tappered was perfect for the pump handle. All you need to do is cut it down before it tappers and you have a solid pump handle for half of the price!

Also if there is a tractor supply company nearby you can usually find the sdr 200 (thinwall) pvc in a multitude of sizes. It isn't cheap by any means at around $8+ per stick but its a constant supply for me at least.

That's funny... I buy all of my thinwall 1-1/2" PVC from stores. Lowe's and HD, specifically.

Threaded 1 1/5 couplers also work well. The threads make the ID a bit smaller, and it fits well enough.

Yeah, SC is a little slow in the noggin when it comes to getting anything, especially brass.

Thanks for the input guys.

Yeah NerfGeek, I would have tried threaded couplers, but I wanted the pump handle to feel connected. It's just so much nicer that way.

A word of warning: the tube I mentioned earlier is MUCH weaker that PVC, so don't try putting the strongest springs you got in it. I have two Home Depot springs in mind, and they should work just fine.

I haven't seen any 1.5" thinwall at any Lowe's or HD's. Check your local Ace's. The nearest three around me all sold 1.5" thinwall.

This stuff is expensive and shipping will probably cost you a lot, but here's some purple 1.5" thinwall.

I've found 1.5" thinwall only at Ace Hardware as well. It really depends on the particular Ace and particular shipment of PVC they have. I worked at an Ace for about 16 months and the PVC shipments switched between thinwall and regular wall.

Sorry for bringing back to life >.<

I am in search for a good cetch spring replacement for a LS. I know you can get packs of various springs at HD but Im looking for alot of one spring so I figured McMaster-Carr would be the place to go. Found this (96565K36)in the homemade section. Would this work well or could it be too strong?

It looks like it should work. I would measure the OD and ID of the original catch spring and how much the catch moves to be 100% certain. Most people still use pen springs, either replacing or adding to the stock one. If you have your new spring already then see if a pen spring combo will suffice.
