I recently went to a TSC farm store, and discovered that there is indeed three types of PVC, as I previously thought there was two. There is 200 psi thinwall, SCH40/80, and electrical conduit, which is a dark grey in colour. I've always assumed that the electrical conduit was SCH40. Is there any significant differences, other than size limitations? I've used 1/2" conduit for a prototype pressure tank, and it will hold 70 psi no problem, and 120 psi is the assumed upper limit. Anything else I should be wary of between SCH40 and the electrical conduit?

...thing happens to mine sometimes, stick your finger in the barrel to make it air tight, then pump a couple times to re-close it... If that doesnt work then you have to open it up and pull the rod back. For me I have to pump 55 and I get a shot that can break through soft wood, consistantly.-rokor

Wait, so what was there there that I missed that is supposed to be helpful? I'm confused. Oh, that's right. There's nothing helpful there that we don't know.

Yes. Copper is copper, whereas brass is a copper and zinc alloy. Brass is usually more corrosion resistant, and more malleable than copper or zinc.

Brass is also available in a lot more sizes than copper. What you probably found was 1/2" copper, which has a really loose fit on micro darts(they'll slide around easily in it). Some people use it for air guns, but for spring guns its basically useless.

Springs are at ACE, Home Depot and even occasionally Lowes.
I think it should be noted that our NF springs are not always #49. On my way through Pennsylvania, I stopped at an ACE, and the only spring even close was labeled as #54. #49 was a tension spring.

Same thing happened to me. The closest one was, like, a #24, and it was being sold for twenty dollars!

Okay, maybe it's just that Loweses and Home Depots (especially Home Depots) in SW Pennsylvania are horrible and/or have idiots working there, but:

-I can only find Sch. 80 PVC (in particular, threaded "nipples") in one, out-of-the-way Lowes that's quite far from me.

-I've never seen a check valve in stores, or for that matter a decent sprinkler section; after much searching, I finally found out where to find the solenoid valves from a guy who deals plumbing parts to Lowes.

-I've never found a single compression spring in a Home Depot, and I've asked repeatedly.

Anyone have any tips for finding any of the above in a Home Depot or Lowes (there aren't any ACEs around me) that I don't only get to once every couple of months?

Thanks in advance.

-Generally I've found Home Depot to be a better place to find PVC.

-A check valve can be made, fairly, easily. (check the homemades directory)

-And I, too, am still wondering where to get springs. Any other places than ACE?(there aren't any near me either)

EDIT: SP

E-tape is usually like 2-5 bucks around here, but Wal-mart has Auto E-tape for 60 cents in the Automotive aisel.

Its awesome. I find it thicked than normal e-tape, but just a little.

The only downside to the cheap stuff is that it contains lead, which causes cancer. That equals very, very no for me.

The springs in HD will be near the hardware aisle (yes, there is a set of aisles in a hardware store designated "hardware"). You'll almost always find them near the bolts, screws, washers, steel rods, etc. Usually there are only two to five different types of compression springs, with the rest being extension springs.

Where does everybody get their CPVC? I've tried Ace and OSH, but neither of them have small enough sizes.

Thanks, SHA, for answering my question, but in that case it seems my Home Depot doesn't carry them. I think they actually had one extension spring once, but that was it. I guess my hardware stores are just lame.

Uh, I'm from Maine, we all HAVE cancer up here, and we live with it. And it didn't say lead, it said "Contains chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer and birth defects".

Nerfturtle, try asking if you could just buy half the piece or even 3 feet or something..

EDIT; I advice not buying from ace, i just bought a pipe cutter and the blade is on crooked.

These guys seem to think so.

I never use pvc, just 'cause I'm paranoid. That whole "57% made of chlorine" kinda turned me off of it.

ABS is a good substitute for pvc. Haven't ran into a Home Depot that has it in the right sizes though.
