I was thinking of puting a bayonet on the homemade rifle I am making. I am going to make it out of cpvc covered with pipe insulation.

I think that idea is pretty usesless if your going for practicalness. If you got that close to me I'd just cap you in the face with my NF. I seriously doubt you could come that close to someone without them hitting you. If it was me, your face would be mine.

That sounds pretty cool. It'd be cool if you had it behind your gun so that when you use it, you can swing it around and hit them with it. That's just an idea, but maybe it's better up front. Hmm, that gives me an idea: Put a peice of foam under the bottum of the grip of my scout and use it to "pistol whip" others. I'm a fan of melee combat so I'm supporting your bayonet idea.

I don't really like the idea of a bayonet, personally. Sidearms are more effective, if you ask me. I guess it really depends on what kind of war you're doing. Extremely Close quarters war? Cool, do it. Wide open sapces? Das ist nicht gut.

If any of you guys remember my blowgun, I had created a bayonet for it. It was flimsy, but did work. On a regular nerf gun, I don't think it would work very well, but with the blowgun being long, I can use it much easier.

I'm sorry, but I think it's fucking stupid. We're talking about foam toy guns and a bayonet just doesn't fit with it. "WEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! I'm gonna chop your fucking arm off with this hunk of plastic!" I really see no practicality in this. It'll work for really close quarters, huh? I agree...if you plan on getting within 3 feet of the other guy without getting shot.

My constructive criticism: Whatever floats your boat. I'd be pretty embarrassed to have a clumsy thing like that on my gun, but that's personal preference.

I think it'd depend on the circumstance. If you guys allow barrel-taps/melee weapons, I think it would come in handy; it'd be way faster than taking the time to pull a knife. The main advantage would be if you guys allow melee combat but not barrel taps; than you wouldn't waste the shot on shooting in melee/CC. I'd ask your friends first if they allow melee combat first; otherwise, adding that to your gun will be both bulky and unwieldly.

I think the idea would be pretty sweet if instead of a knife, it was like a nerf ball/grenade type thing, not necessarily something that would explode. That way, if you were ever in a situation where both of you are out ammo in your primary and sidearm you could just take it off and chuck it at the guy. Now if both of you are good enough to dodge all the shots or have terrible enough aim to miss all the shots in the first place, then it probably won't do you any good. Dunno, just putting in my two cents.

I think it would look cool for looks. Also, a lot of the time in close combat, the opponent has run out of ammo in a RF20 or missed with a large pump gun and has to reload. With a good, kean mind, you can easily save ammo and jab or slash them quickly. I think this is more realistic than the occasional barrel tap. Then again, some people may consider this H2H, but in my opinion, it's an extended barrel since it is not handeled by the hand(s). I'm pro bayonette!

P.S., I think that bayonettes should be used in Halo 2 (or 3) for a human melee weapon whereas the covenent have the plasma sword.

You are crazy! Putting a sharp a object ment to stab people is not what I call fun...If someone ran out of amo and had a long metal object that he was running towards me with...I would be getting the hell out of dodge, do you hear me?

Unless it was just for looks...in the case still a bad idea. It's nerf. Not the civil war.

Look, if it floats your boat then go for it. If it works for you that's just fine with me. Like some other people have said it depeds upon your situation. If they allow it, then do whatever you can to try to win. But if they dont, you are just out of luck. If they allow it and its fun to you to have a pionted object stucking out of your gun and poking people with it, then just do it and have a good time. Nerfing is supposed to be fun. If that is fun for you, then you are in the right forum.

Instead of pvc and pipe foam, I'd recommend making it entirely out of foam. Use camp pad or something similar - sheet foam that is somewhat rigid. Glue two layers together and then you can shape it to look like a blade on the end. Painting it can be difficult at times - if you want it to look decent get some Plasti-Dip and build up a coating with that, then paint it with acrylic paint.
