No, I don't have a reason for not going to SP2...but the earlier version of SP2 annoyed me, and I never really thought of checking back to see what's changed. I have a PII computer running Red Hat 9 Linux, but that really shouldn't count.

Just piece em together as I go. The 1.5GHz P4 was my main PC then I built a new one off the 775 chip. Don`t buy it all at once. I jsut get the skeleton up and running and then add components as I find em cheap. Everytime I run across a cheap HDD i usually buy it. You can never have enough harddrives.

Sound Card (the guys in Wolfenstein 3d actually speak now! No more bleeps for me).
VGA monitor! (The guy at the store said that most apps don't even use all the colors available to this monitor. Well worth the $300).

I remember upgrading DOS and Windows versions as they would come out every couple of months for a while there (DOS 6.0, 6.2, 6.21, 6.22....geez). I also remember exiting Windows the minute it booted and doing everything in DOS. Anyone remember them basic games that came with DOS: Gorrilla, Nibbles, etc. They were fucking awesome.

You neglected Lemmings. Other excellent games that I had for DOS included Cosmo, Carmen Sandiego, and Sim City 2000 (came on two 3.5" floppys).

Lemmings was not a BASIC game which was distributed with MS-DOS, however. Neither were any of the other games you mentioned. So, in actuality, boltsniper neglected nothing.

Speaking of processor cores I earlier said I was upgrading to a AMD 4000+. Ayone know what the differences are between ones like Newcastle, Clawhammer, San Diego, Venice, Barton and which ones are better?




Also: I currently have an old CRT gateway2000 crystal scan monitor from my really old computer and I was wondering if anybody wants to sell me any old LCD monitors for under $50 (i know its really low), it can be any size legnth and have cosmetic dammage as long as it works and dosent have too many of those permenant smears or thumbprints that LCDs so commonly have.

You saw what else I have in the home, laptop, etc. (the Folding@Home thread). All older stuff, still runs fine for what I need. Got the LCD monitor for the office this year...other than that...old stuff.

I don't game, hack, burn DVDs, collect MP3 music, watch videos or TV on my computer (if you're going to watch TV on the computer, just plant it in front of the tube). Come to think about it, we hardly watch any TV at all, 'cept for the news and a DVD every now and then.

That's probably why I generally don't upgrade and buy new stuff until the old breaks down (that and I'm also a cheapskate.)
