[The Infinite Shindig]

I recently received the following PM:

Yo Shindig. What's up with the constant IMs saying that I'm your hero? My parents think you're a stalker or something. I appreciate the praise Wink but I wish you'd stop. Enough is enough.
That being said, I don't know for sure that your sn is InfiniteShindig, but I'm supposing it is. Please stop.

I would like to respond to this publicly, since crackshot may not be alone. I see this as especially important, because of my position in the community, and the fact that I am 19. This will be posted on NH and NHQ.

First off, I have two screen names, niether of which is InfiniteShindig. One is listed on both forums, it is xcrunner44. The other is for my personal uses only. Simply put, I like to keep Nerf and personal life separate. Only a select few nerfers know this personal sn. These would include, but are not limited to Talio, Vacc, cxwq, Langley, Pineaple, OMC, Evil, and Spanky. Any one of them can vouch that InfiniteShindig is not my sn.

In short, if InfiniteShindig sends you instant messages, please block that screen name. I do not bother other nerfers like that. I have far better things to do with my time. Ask any engineering major and they will tell you that sleep is their number 1 priority. As I write this, I am in a circuits lab.

I would also like to clear up that if you are my hero (which is doubtful) I will address you as such over the forums.

If any of you have been bothered by this individual, I am sorry for the inconvenience. More than likely, it is someone I have suspended. If you figure out who this individual is and would like to inform me, I would appreciate it; they will incurr my wrath.

Edit: If you receive an IM that could have been typed by a 10-year-old, it probably was. Other than Piney, I've already IM'd everyone I'm likely to ever IM so you know my screen name.

I will first and foremost, vouch for what Shindig has said and claimed.

In the limited time (3 years or so) that I have known him, he has NEVER exhibited anything resembling erratic behavior regarding the abuse of the Internet in the context of the Nerf forums he has administrated/moderated (Nerf HQ, NerfHaven). All things he has done have always been in the best interest of maintaining continuity and ensuring that forum rules are upheld and enforced.

In this world of cyber-stalking, and people who definitely need some professional help, it's imperative that abuse of the internet, ESPECIALLY IMPERSONATING SOMEONE ELSE TO HARASS OTHER PEOPLE, deserves not only a verbal thrashing, but recourse in the form of removal of internet service from the offender's ISP, and possibly formal litigation in court. Punishment to the fullest.

I cannot stress enough that the use of cxwq's forum, Spanky's forum, or ANY forum in the Nerf community is not a right, but a revocable privilege to be protected and stewarded well. Being suspended/ banned from a forum for reprehensible behavior is NOT a reason to falsely put an administrator into an incriminating situation.

Also as an old guy who Nerfs with his kids, and a parent, I ensure that all my posts not have any kind of nuances that may allude to the possibilty of myself being some kind of stalker, child molester, etc. Neither do I usually carry on an AIM conversation with anyone for over 2-3 minutes, except for those in the community that I have a trust earned. I myself have a reputation to protect also.


And YES, InfiniteShindig is not any of TIS' screennames.

Weren't there two other cases of poseurs in the past? I don't remember who the victims were, though. I think one of them was either GrOOvE or Rags, and I don't remember the other one. Yooper was associated with it though, I remember reading it.

Ah, thank God. I've been IMed by this so called "Shindig" and was asked where in New York I lived. It was kind of disturbing, but I'm glad that this has been solved.
