I know the greater majority of users here tend to frequent both NH and NHQ, not particularly the respected portion, but a large portion never the less. To those of you who don't know, check out this little sexy thing here. It searchs the NHQ forum just like the Google feature searches Google in the search toolbar. Unfortunately the same search limits still apply, so I think it's a minimum of 3 characters.

The NH one isn't easy. Because the search page isn't actually a specific page [as NHQ is search.php and NH is index.php?act=Search&f=5] I can't actually sort it out to work. Maybe if C new how to create a specific search page or help me out with this, we could all have our own shortcut NH search engine!

Thats cool, if this gets made I may very well switch from netscape to firefox. Though I must admit to liking netscapea great deal, but the ability to search the Haven would be nice. Good luck getting it to work.

Google searches NH better than Invision (or anything else) can. I whipped up a Google domain restricted search plugin for us.

Link.

Let me know if you have any problems.

Wow, simple enough C.
Is it ever going to be possible to create a search page [search.php] on the server though? Because then both you and I know how easy it would to do a NHQ style one, except keeping within the NH theme. The google one works better than Invision itself, I know, but it's still a google engine. I don't like it. And won't that mean that it's only as up to date as the most recent spider?

Another great plugin regardless.

First, I'd like to say good plugins guys. Maybe they will get people to search a little more from now on.

And won't that mean that it's only as up to date as the most recent spider?

From a strict standpoint of my own observations, I see GoogleBots logged on this site at least 4 times a week. I would venture to say everyday, but I really wouldn't be able to confirm that. Perhaps cx has some better numbers on that stuff.

That pluggin is going to be really usefull when I need to search the site. I have found it works better than the sites engine (just like most people) and I will use it whenever i can. Very cool indeed.

I can confirm that. Google seems to place a reasonably high priority on spidering this site. Someone can feel free to look for unusual words in recent topics and see how far it lags our posts.

The search turned up nothing much, just a Halo topic and a topic I posted in a while back.

I realised it's on nearly every second day even with my time zone, but even then, its not specifically accurate, but now I'm just picking problems with it. I just like the aspect of having a NH skinned one. And if you could create a search.php one it would be simple as microwave pie.

Yeah, what is the GoogleBot? How did it get membership, I thought you had to write an essay and send it to cx, or is that over now?

It's not a "member" [that's why you can't click on it], it's merely listed as one to help weed it out when doing user counts etc.

It doesn't need to a member as well, the only category you need to be a member for is to browse "The Haven".

Yeah, I wouldn't mind having nerfhaven.com/google.php as our skinned search engine, but I can't afford the Google Appliance <g>

Regarding your question though, that would really be up to the IBF dev team. I'm about to upgrade to 2.1 Final so feel free to check the feature set for that if you like. I'm not sure if they have changed or plan to change the fact that search is built into the index PHP code. I don't really want to go stripping that function out into a new file because I'm not sure what else in the codebase the change would impact.

Edit: I just checked 2.1F - they haven't changed it. GoogleNH looks like the best we can do for now. I have to admit that I've become strangely dependant on that plugin, my searches have become so much more accurate and efficient. Thanks for inspiring me to create it!

No worries mate.

I wasn't specifically asking for a completely new [and only] search.php page, I just was wondering if you could duplicate it. There are search functions on individual forums anyway, so I wouldn't fsck with the index really. Not to worry. The google is still way more accurate as you say.
