Hats off to the man! Vacc, it was true, very true. My first gun was a Blast-a-Ball and only recently have I discovered the many many web sites. Your Rant(for lack of a better word) touched on several profound points. Why look to some one else for guidence when it should be you doing the tinkering. But will things ever get back to the way that they have been... Probably not. Not when we still cling to "East Cost" and "West Cost" rules and "Raders" and "Troopers" Do us all a favor. next time you have a war, be it just you and your friends, or a huge all out battle... play it simple, dont call it any thing... Just play it

And in the words of a well respected man "Nerf on, of Fuck OFF"

I totally agree. The LCM started with myself, the shindidg, and the twins just shooting the hell out of each other in my basement. We didnt have any mods. I might have poked the X out of my 5000 arrow barrel, but thats it. Eventually we started modding guns, got more people, and needed rules, simply because it was chaos with all these people and nobody ever dying. As Vacc points out, ideas are best done out of necessity.
I think wars can still differ from east coast and west coast styles. At large scale wars, those are the only two though. Though if your clan is having a small 6 man war, you might as well make up some cool rules and scenarios.

East/West Coast rules are pretty much the only ways to play. You either count after you get hit or you don't. Each changes the tactics and choice of weapons drastically, so telling people what kind of war they will be having is helpful. Although, calling it East/West Coast is mostly an online thing, which I assume is coined from the original NIC members different game styles.

Conforming can be good for communication's sake.

But you dont need East/ West. Play one hit kill... or just shoot each other... The longer you cling to the "Rules" the longer nerf stays the way it is.

Uh, maybe you aren't as competitive as me and my friends were when you were little, but we made games out of everything, with more rules than one of Calvin and Hobbes baseball games. Rules are needed for a sport, and one hit kill games get old, especially with the 4 people we started out with.

In recent history, I have not played a game that has had more than 6 people total. The reason that the nerfers in my area have adoped the OHK idea is simple. COUNTING SUCKS... not only counting to get back in, but also counting the number of times you get hit. And besides there is little in life that is more satisfying then avenging your team mate's death. Keep your numbers, rules, and petty ideas, I will always prefer the simple joy of takeing out a person with a well aimed shot to the head... and not haveing them come back in 5/10/20 seconds

I always have to make a game out of everything, and complex rules too. I guess that's why my friend Schrodie wrote on his assignment book last year during career's, "DAMN! You are technical!"...

Heh..

I do think the bash at integration was either poorly aimed at a generalized topic, based on a select few problems, or simply an opinion born of the more hyped guns, such as, as indirectly mentioned, Daemon. I think I rekindled the idea of integration by putting a 1500 in my crossbow, but Evil's "integration" definitely started the craze, with his patented advertising skills. I do think it's gotten out of control, with people completely replacing the base gun with one or more air guns. Spring guns are good for their quick reload; Respect them for that. Replacements, putting guns in shells, is just a sacrifice to vanity. Sure, they may work fairly well, but you're just dressing up some internals with a prettier casing, for no reason save for want of a pretty Air Gun. I personally think that an actual integration, an "adding" of some gun, can help, but when you want your Secret Shot 2, say, to be an air-powered EaB, I have to draw the line.

On actual integrations: Given, there are limitations on where the barrel of another shot is pointed, but that's why the best integrations are discreet. If they limit the base ability of the gun in any way, I personally see a problem. For example, the first 1500/Crossbow meld: With a pump on the side, the gun can still support that extra LnL, as Vacc may like, but it does limit the ability to carry two Lock 'n Loads. In my case, this didn't matter, but it may cause problems for others.

Summation: using wasted space is good, overriding the abilities of the original gun to allow for an "integration" is problematic. Oh, and dressing up air guns is stupid.

And as to actual Nerfing: We started at birthday parties, firing foam darts at each other from unmodified guns, though there was a definite technical feel about improving the guns. I did my first modifications without help or knowledge. Hell, I did most of them without help or knowledge, which was half the point of doing them. It's more fun that way. As for now? Unless the Canadian Dollar goes up, I'm screwed.

I think you missed the point that I was not simply bashing gun integrations, and in fact explained that they are effective when used in a pragmatic fashion. The only problem I have is when weapons are mangles and made less utilitous, as I also explained in the article.

No, I do understand that, you were quite clear on that. I just thought you had something against all integrations, sort of in a mild "Satan's work!" kind of way. I do have to agree with you there; A lot of people don't consider battle application when modifying their guns. They just want them to look pretty, or use some special feature. We'll soon have self-made gimmicks built into our guns, like some kind of barrel that fires a large, slow-moving, low-distance projectile, because it "looks like a grenade."

Oh wait. We do.

Guys, if you have the chance to make your gun sexy, why not take the opportunity?

I think the problem here is varied definitions of "sexy".

Most mods are hella unsexy. They make me puke. They are abominations and the bane of my existance.

But if you'd like, I'll tell you what I really think... ^_^

Ok. Next time I host a war, I won't actually plan it, I'll just shoot people  . I see your point, though.

Y'know, I'm not even gonna' read the rest of this topic, so I don;t know how it got to this. However, you guys can't really think that I was advocating a lack of rules, or even and anti-west/east coast style stance. I mean, I only even mentioned those two terms in the article as a example of Nerf pre-NIC. To take that to mean that I don't approve of them, or something to that tone is simply a distortion of my words. However, if this is not what you were talking about....fuck it then.

There are two distinct conversations going in this thread

Both are on-topic I'm afraid.
